How To Fix 0xc000021a BSODs

TIP: You should click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system speed.

Blue Screen of Death BSOD is a stop error screen that is being displayed on a Windows computer every time a fatal system error or a serious system crash occurs. This is the time when the operating system can no longer work and operate safely. Blue screens usually gives out a stop code which users can use to determine the root of the problem.

Generally, blue screens are a result of an issue with the computer hardware or its driver software. Low-level softwares can also cause the system to crash and trigger a BSOD. However, regular apps and programs can not cause BSOD if they crash.

Windows automatically makes a “minidump” file when a blue screen arises. This file contains details about the crash that will help identify the main cause of the blue screen error.

A user in the forum details it further:

What causes 0xc000021a BSODs

To fix a Blue Screen of Death error, you need to take note of the text on the screen when it happened. It often contains a list of files associated with the crash including device drivers that could have triggered the error. Since most Windows are designed to automatically restart after a blue screen, you need to make sure that you disable this feature in order to do any necessary troubleshooting in future cases of BSOD.

One most important thing to do after a blue screen is to ask yourself what you did before it occurred. It could be that you are trying to install a new software, updating a device driver or installing updates - the key is there. You can also check your storage and make sure that there is enough space for Windows to operate safely. You can also set hardware settings and BIOS to default to help troubleshoot the problem.

Two BSODs: 0xc000021a; SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I cannot even get the system to the repair screen on startup. BSOD, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED(iaStorA.sys)
4. Automatic reboot, "Preparing Automatic Repair" shows at the bottom of the screen
3.

My HP Envy laptop, running Windows 10, is stuck in the following infinite loop when I try to power up:

1.

EDIT: I did a hard drive extensive test last night and set it to loop until error. Repeatedly tapping escape brings up the menu, but when I type F11, system diagnostics, I get BSOD with error message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (I am not sure, exactly what; it only stays up for a few moments before spontaneously rebooting). BSOD, error code 0xc000021a
2.

With the status 'warning' my guess is that the hard drive is starting to fail.

I cannot even get to the system repair!! Automatic reboot, everything looks normal until #1 happens again a few seconds later. It just completed two iterations, and though it has not found an error, the hard drive short and long DST checks have statuses of "warning." What does this mean?

I need urgent assistance to get to the boot disk on drive D...somehow...any how.

Can you do a system restore again? (rather than undoing it)
Pick a date even further back and try that.

driver_overran_stack_buffer then 0xc000021a

I do not have a restore point or disc from which to recover from. Are you still requiring help? Now I get the endless reboot, 0xc000021a.

Please help me because this computer has all my important work files. I upgraded downloading the tool on the Microsoft website... If so, try from somewhere to create a recovery USB.

I was browsing Tumblr on Microsoft edge and suddenly I get a BSOD which said driver_overran_stack_buffer.

Please help!! What is your Windows OS?

My computer is the HP Pavilion 07-1154, i know that the pre-installed video card is AMD Raedon but my new video card is Nvidia, could that be the problem? Your profile says you are running Windows 8 but you are posting in the Windows 98 forum?

How to fix 0xc000021a, BSOD?

I am able to boot PC ONLY by disabling driver signature enforcement(which stays till restart due to fastboot). Even a single error will indicate RAM failure. Minidump on debugging show ntkrnlmp.exe to be the problem. So i used Windows 10 iso to repair and maybe* messed it up with bootrec and bcdedit commands.

Even safe mode doesn't work. Tried SFC and dism but no integrity voilations. Incidents may not be related. MemTest+ Result Image.

After sometime It gave 0xc000021a BSOD . MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. Can't add picture directly[Adding does nothing].

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat. I don't want to reset since my PC is highly customized desktop environment. Giving all details to be clear. Older dumps:Old1, Old2.

Please help. Tried many methods in this forum. We're looking for zero errors here. Please help.

Make a photo of the result and post it. If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

Also
Code:
bootrec /scanos

gives Total identified Windows installations: 0

0xc000021a error

I was using my computer everyday till about a week ago.  I woke up to find my computer turned off.  Maybe a power outage in the middle of the night.  I hit the power button and it went to the loading screen with the rotating icon at the bottom of the screen.Since then i have tried almost all ideals i could find on the web.  I can not download or go into files as i can not load windows to do so.  i cant even get into safe mode unless you have a way that works.  I have alot of information on my computer and would like to keep it.

BSOD 0xc000021a Windows 10

I have a friends PC (C2D 8400, Intel x38MB, nvidia 660gtx, 8GB ddr3, 2xhdd in raid 0) with Win10
Everything worked fine half year until few days ago, updates installed fine and after few restarts BSOD 0xc000021a
happened. I tried every single option in Win RE
Startuprepair - fail
Every setting in startupsettings - fail
Safe mode - fail
Reset PC - fail
Booted USB Win10 iso, tried reset, starturepair - fail

SFC offbootdir offwindir found integrity violations but can't repair them because WRP can't start repair etc etc.... DISM "sourcedrive:windows" /cleanup-image /restorehealth "source:wimfileinmyusb" - fails because RPC no running, but it is running

I can upload logs if needed.

BSOD error 0xc000021a

A few seconds after I BSOD with the error 0xc000021a. I heard windows 10 likes to secretly update bios so I don't know it that could be the problem. I didn't drag and save so I left it like that over night. Boot it up and got all the way to the logo and loading screen.

I kept my computer on over night and I accidentally hit the print screen button. Anyways I have had boot loops in the past where if I plug too many usb devices in the back IO panel the computer will just boot loop. As soon as I woke the computer up it froze the entire screen nothing could be down. Nothing work in the repair menu but the command prompt which is label X Drive instead of C drive by default.

As you are unable to boot proper into the system, please try the bootable tests from Hardware Diagnostics

I have a special program called 'Greenshot' so it overlays the screen with a grid region selector and lets you drag and save. Also a message pop up about failed nvidia drivers.

Reset the computer and the auto repair screen came up. I decided to just force reset my computer since their was nothing I could do. I won't let me reinstall windows w/ keeping personal files, safe mode doesn't help nor does the force drivers option, I have no idea if windows have "Boot from last known boot" or have it verity all system64 files like windows 7.

Error 0xc000021a unsolvable?!?!?!

I'm now stuck in a bootloop in which the PC refuses to fix itself. Core-i5 4460 @3.2gh. However, I seem to have created a problem for myself... My system specs are as follows:
Gigabyte GA-H81M-HD3 mobo
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
8gb DDR3 ADATA Ram.

P.s. Try booting with "force drivers to have signature disabled" option. For future reference, this is a custom built PC so there's no telling what I did. I've tried booting into safe mode, only to get the exact same error.

yes I have removed all hardware and replugged all bit by bit and nothing has changed. I have tried a 2 separate system restores, both 28th and 23rd of January, to no avail. I've literally tried nearly all non-disc/drive workarounds and I'm going to set this thing ablaze with hellfire soon. 😡😡😡

Any help would be much appreciated. I get error 0xc000021a in a bsod and it reboots to try and repair, in which that fails.

Sorry that I cannot create any dump of any kind, as I can't even access any part of my PC. Here's the guide: How to Disable Driver Signature Verification on 64-Bit Windows 8.1 (So That You Can Install Unsigned Drivers)

Eh? I cannot refresh or reboot as I do not have access to a disk or flash drive at this point (my kid sister snapped my disc in a fit of rage, irrelevant but worth noting.)

I can't even chkdsk because it says something about the HDD being locked?

Surface RT 0xc000021a error

Help... If this error was caused due to a MicroSoft update, do I really have to pay MicroSoft support to walk me thru the steps to undo their mess? I understand Microsoft no longer provides support for the Surface RT.

I have the dreaded "blue screen of death" with a 0xc000021a error. In the simplest terms possible (because I am a computer neophyte) how can
I fix this?

BSOD with error 0xc000021a

Using microsoft security essentials.  I do not have any other antivirus program or software installed.

I received notification that updates were available and ready for installation (I have the computer notifying me when windows updates are available for installation) - all other program updates are a notification only, I believe.

So, I hit the install updates and restart pc. I hit advanced options, I have continue, troubleshoot and turn off PC. So when I hit continue, it loops back to my problem.  Turn off PC, well, turns it off and when I turn it back on  I still have my problem.
Troubleshoot:  Refresh or reset your PC.  Not really interested in performing this function.

Model is CA 27.  I am running windows 8.  Installed from windows store. Advanced options:  System Restore.  Attempted:  I get "System restor failed while scanning the file system on the drive C:\  The drive might be corrupt, you might want to retry system restore after running chkdsk  /R on this disk.  An unspecified error occurred during system restore.  0x81000204"

I have not done command prompt and check disk.  I wouldn't know what to look for. Once the pc initiated the restart phase, the black screen with windows logo appears, with the spinning circle.  It then shoots to a blue screen with the following message:  Your PC ran into a problem restarting.  We are collecting informa...

Stop code 0xc000021a

When I did the system reset I was using Windows 10. Should of reset to Windows 7 Home.

There's no need to post this issue in 3 different threads.

I was doing a system reset on my HP Pavilion g6-1d01dx Notebook PC and now when I turn it on all I get is a blue error screen with a stop code 0xc000021a. Can't get into system restore by the f11 key, don't have any disc's or usb recovery either.

'0xc000021a' dead error

How can I fix it? No "help" I have come across has worked, especially on microbrain's website. It says it is collecting some "error info" and has not moved from 0% since it started nearly 25 minutes ago. Pressing F8 is ignored by this wonderful piece of nothing, and I can't make the drive work via a USB dock using another windose OS on another drive, either.

I started my Samsung laptop today to find the entitled error. I'm on mobile so I can't see the edit button. It keeps on either going to the Samsung splash screen with the rotating icon then not doing anything, yo the error/error info-"collecting" screen immediately where it reboots immediately and alleges to try again, or it mentions it is "preparing automatic repair", which I don't know why it's called that because it does NOTHING automatically/by default, and does NOT repair ANYTHING.

By "dead" I mean it is not doing anything.

I don't have this installation disc and I can't make a boot USB disk, either, because I can't get into it st all. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a fake non-error, not doing anything, and certainly not fixing anything.

BSOD W10x64 Pro - 0xc000021a

Nothing works. Everything transferred the machine was up and running.

I upgraded from W7 x64 pro to W10 x64 pro. I plugged the drive into my laptop to run checkdisk, defrag and make sure the disk works.

How can I go about getting the needed data over? I usually leave it running and let the power settings put it to sleep and turn it off. Thank you,
LEIP

Please run the Log Collector, upload the resulting .zip file and we'll let you know if the relevant information is in there.

I discovered it needs firmware 3.0 but this still doesn't explain why it was workign just fine and when left untouched went to BSOD. Its an OCZ Vector Sata III 256GB. And any suggestions for a fix. I noticed it was on and went to go look and see BSOD.

I downloaded the utility you provide but I gather it is taking the specs from my laptop and not the external OCZ drive that is plugged in. Tried restart, debug, reset and save files, recover to last known recovery point and safe mode.

STOP 0xC000021A in winlogon.exe

There is a forum post in the ...Removal Logs forum about this issue, where an XP PC dies with STOP: 0xc000021a {Fatal System Error}The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)The system has been shut downand a later scan finds that /Windows/system32/winlogon.exe is infected with TR/Spy.507904.8.The advice given was to boot from an XP CD, run Recovery Console, and replace winlogon.exe (and atapi.sys) with the versions from the CD. This solved the BSOD issue, but resulted inan error "winlogon.exe encountered a problem and needs to close message"Such an error seems a likely possibility, since the CD version may well not match the current installed version that's being replaced. I had the same STOP 0xC000021A issue very recently, which I eventually resolved by replacing winlogon.exe with the copy from /Windows/system32/dllcache, after runningFC /B winlogon.exe dllcache\winlogon.exe to compare the two copies. (I had booted from a UBCD4Win CD rather than Recovery Console so I had the FC command available.)Perhaps this will help someone else with this problem (it would have saved me much time!)
