A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Notes to keep in mind (I've tried to be thorough to try to eliminate you helpers asking me things I could've provided in this first post): - KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security) latest version is on the machine, and has always been disabled protection while applying fixes, etc. - rather than re-entering an entire reference book, I am giving some examples of posts I have looked at and attempted to repair from. - after some googling about the error codes given, I have tried, multiple times, applying the suggested fixes from the following information, but without complete resolution. - the cmd.exe prompt, .bat, and other fixes are always run as an administrator. - also stop all 'junk' processes like VAIO update checks and other unnecessary things just to make sure they are not interefering. - no services are set to disabled. - running an offline thorough chkdsk finds no errors nor disk problems. - time & date are correct on PC, no BIOS errors - there is enough free disk space - safe mode was tried for those things that can be run in safe mode, but not all can - computer restarted for each repair attempt. - the Windows Update service is running, as is COM+ EVent System, COM+ System Application, Cryptographic Services, DCOM Server Process Launcher, RPC (Remote Procedure Call), Windows Event Log, and these are set to Automatic start (as is BITS, but it isn't starting) - using net start bits from elevated cmd.exe indicates BITS failed to start. So what happens is, you run Microsoft Update from Control Panel. Cleaned off malware/adware with Kaspersky offline Rescue CD, then used Spybot S&D, and then Malware Byte and CCleaner to look for other things.

[SOLVED] BITS Service Problem: Errors 80246008 + 126: PART 2

Here's the link to that issue posted here in the recent past:

CAN'T Install Windows Updates - Two Error Codes

NOW; here comes my desktop with the same issues, but nothing seems to fix it. I attempted to run the MS Fix 50202 in aggressived mode, but it failed due to teh BITS 126 error issue.

6. I imported and used the BITS service to registry. Got it resolved.

Got frustrated, walked away, irritated family members, ate a little....

10. I have a problem with running BITS Service. The overwrite was blocked as it requires admin priviledges.

9. I see it now, but when looking at it's properties, the description says, "Failed to Read Description.

There have been a number of reboots. Any help would be greatfully appreciated! I followed the Tutorial linked to the prior topic by verifying COM + Event System is in order.

2. Here's what I did:

1.

When attempting, however, I got a window noting the files were already there and was asked if I wanted to overwrite. Error Code: 2."

3. I got a window saying it was successfully added to the registry.

7.

Some steps I took more than once. I think the sfc /scannnow did the trick. Found that BITS was actually missing. No luck.

11.

I got an error 126.

4. I performed sfc /scannow again. Found the sfcdetails.txt and here are the results:

Update error 80246008 with BITS unable to start

Attempted this: You receive an error message when you try to download updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site, or when you try to start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service
But when doing "regsvr32 qmgr.dll" results in an error:

Quote:
The module "qmgr.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "qmdr.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code -2147024894

Things I've done:
1. I hope that this information will help others with this problem.

Any ideas? Ran sfc /scannow (no problems reported)
2. The BITS service was able to start, and I can now download and install Windows Updates. All steps here: Windows Update Error 80246008 in Windows 7 - Fix
3.

I've seen this issue around the net in a lot of places with no real fixes, so I'll post mine. Ok problem solved. The folder "C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader" seemed to have permissions issues that have plauged the rest of my Windows 7 experience.

Hey all,
Windows updates and Microsoft Security Essentials won't update, Windows Update giving the error code 80246008.

Thus, I fixed the problem using the "Take Ownership" program from these forums on that folder. What was happening was that BITS wa...

Win update error 80246008 & BITS

Any and all help is appreciated.

I never noticed because my computer hasn't slowed down. Also, I can't do system restore because I have reason to believe this started awhile ago & I have new important stuff installed. Windows Update and COM+Event are running in the Task Manager.

I found the svchost containing Windows Update in the Process Explorer. I went to services.msc and it shows that BITS is running on automatic. It acts like it is downloading and installing but it finally gives me error 80246008. BITS shows that it is stopped and I can't start it from there.

It's pulling 25% CPU. There are 13 other items under that svchost if you need them. So off to the Resource Monitor (resmon). Since BITS is a service I didn't look for it.

One fix involved a command prompt. My command prompt is this: C:\Users\Dawn D> which seems a weird prompt to me. Something I read online while researching this said that COM+EVENT might be related. Now to Process Explorer.

I'm not the most knowledgeable person about computers. Windows update showed as Wuauserv and netsvcs in the Resource Monitor. After some searching I discovered this means that I have to turn on BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service for those who know as little as I do). (BTW, I'm the Administrator & the only one who uses the computer). It is also running on automatic.

Windows update (in Processes) is pulling 25% of my CPU. I...

Windows Update Error#80246008 and BITS

For the last few months I haven't been able to get my Windows Updates to download. So I went to service.msc which shows that BITS is running on automatic. (I also saw something online about COM+EVENT being a possible problem. AARRGGHH! The results were: A red X next to Problem Installing Recent Update; A green X next to Service Registration is missing or corrupt; A green X next to Windows Update Error fixed #0x80070057 - which is not anywhere near the error number that I'm trying to fix.

That is running on automatic). So off to Process Explorer. I went to the Microsoft site for curing the 80246008 error. That is also running on automatic.

In researching this I only found instances where BITS needed to be turned on. I didn't look for BITS since it's a service. I can list the other 12 programs there if you need to know them. I found nothing that said BITS could be running in some places and not others.

So BITS is running in services.msc and not in my Resource Monitor. I keep trying to start it there but it won't start. They look to be downloading and installing but after quite awhile they give me a 80246008 error. My research tells me that I need to have BITS running. (For those who know as little as I do it's the Background Intelligent Transfer Service).

Dawn

I like to check my Resource Monitor and found that BITS is not running and I can't get it to run. Under a svchost.exe I found 13 items in the one containing Windows Update....

Windows Won't Update, Probably Bits, Error 80246008

I read something about having to get a new file from another computer to get a good file to replace the correct one. sfc/scannow result is: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Maybe I should have started with this. Details are included in the CBS.log.

I'd bet my Christmas presents that the corrupt file is BITS. When trying to download Windows updates it takes forever while it says it is preparing to install.

I've been struggling with my computer for months.

I know I did something before that but this didn't start BITS. I can't get it to start there. I don't know a lot about computers and I don't know how to get into the CBS.log. Finally I get a big red X and the error code80246008.

Otherwise Services.msc, Process Explorer etc seem to show it running fine but pulling a lot of CPU.. I've been doing this for a few months now and I can't remember how I got onto it but I think it's BITS. Dawn

I know that there are huge MBs of updates.

If I turn off Windows Update the CPU goes back to about 5%. I realized that the svchost (netsvcs) that includes Windows Update is 25% of CPU usage. That is way out of my league. BITS looks to be turned on in every place but my Resource Monitor.

I have so much room on my drive it wasn't noticeably moving more slowly. Windows says click here for the fix and then of course says i...

I've been doing this for a few months now and I can't remember how I got onto it but I think it's BITS. Windows Update: Error 80246008 - BITS Service missing?

If it is not, click Start. Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started. Right-click the Windows Event Log service, and then click Properties. I've seen this a few times.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! To change or restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools. I'm attaching the result of what services are currently started on my PC as well as the registry setting for BITS as indicated in another post. I'm not a big registry expert and it appears there may be a problem there.

If you receive Windows Update error 80246008 while downloading updates, you might need to change the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) or Windows Event Log service settings, and then restart each service. On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected. and this has fixed the problem

open a command prompt and type this in

Quote:

sc create BITS binpath= "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" start= delayed-auto

Then restart your pc

then

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

BITS will not start error 2147023828

Is it safe to say that at least one of those services should be included in BITS' dependencies list?In any case, Windows Update is finally working again. Thank you so much for your attentive help. I did some digging and found out this is due to the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) not starting. Cheers."

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really like Windows 10 and would like to update it so that maybe all the bugs I am experiencing will be resolved

"Good news! So you were right, the network list errors were involved. I found that the Network Location Awareness and Network List services were stopped. I have tried everything I could find online to fix it and have gotten to what I believe to be the root of the problem, but I cannot find a solution.

After starting them, BITS was able to run. When i try try to update, it just hangs at 0% until Update gives me the error code 0x80248007 for all the updates I am trying to install. All the processes BITS depends on are working and running and every time I try to start it in windows services I get the error code 2147023828 and it never starts.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work.

Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected.

Start Menu Not Opening - Windows 10 64 bits

If it is, then probably your other users profiles are corrupted.

I would suggest creating a new user, sign in, and see if the start menu is working for that new user. This has happened to me several times in the last week. What happened?

I never found them to solve the problem.

My computer was working fine till yesterday. Now, the start menu and search bar doesn't work anymore. There are 'solutions' you can google involving powershell scripts to reinstall the windows store apps.

IME, user profile corruption has been the culprit.

Error 0x80070002. The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with the following service-specific error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Any thoughts? I've tried so far:
wsreset.exe
Windows Update Troubleshooter -> first few times it just said it coudn't fix my problem, now it just hangs on starting BITS
sfc /scannow -> no errors found
Microsoft FixIT for Win Update
System Restore
Refreshing the image using DISM
I checked all the registery keys for BITS with another build 9600 pc and made them matching, no effect. Event log shows two error events;

The BITS service failed to start. I found a new error in event log that might be related:
The server {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Addditionally another error appears every now and then:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied.
