Flashed BIOS and can't boot

HDD LED goes off in 20 seconds.FDD does not worK. I verified that RAM is ok. No power to monitor. Power LED stays on.

read carefully the full description of how to install the BIOS at the website for your computer brand and model. I am a new member today. Help Please. Get advice from the tech support for your computer, as a great many computers are ruined by an incorrectly installed BIOS.

You either installed the incorrect BIOS, or did not give it adequate time to fully install. Then attempt a removal, if allowed... usually that is not allowed.

"Network Cable is (not) unplugged" and "Limited or no connectivity"

After I got through the bull**** of a recording asking me questions and got to a real person, I was told everything was "green across the board". After several days, the wireless card came up with the same error. I'm going to retest this by plugging the the cable directly into the modem and seeing what happens. Prior to this date, my service would drop, not predictably, but enough that I can remember it.

The LAN cable refuses to connect at all and when it says it is connected, I still receive the "Limited or no connectivity error." The wireless card will connect, but often goes out with the same error. Doing an IPConfig, the Wireless adapter is receiving all settings. I've looked through many different webpages and attempted the fixes suggested, but nothing has helped.

I've spent the last two or so weeks attempting to fix this problem.

I rebooted and, instead of connecting, an error came up. "Limited or no connectivity." After several more restarts, I was connected, but it dropped out again, with the same error. I don't believe the NIC has gone bad, but in either case, I am unsure why this would affect the wireless card. Comcast has insisted there is no problem and no other computers on the network experienced this problem, so I assumed it was something local. I would have assumed it was an error with the router, but three other laptops were able to connect to the network, as well as my deskto...

AMD Athlon 64X2 5600+ Overclock problems

I have the X2 5600+, and the ASUS M2N-E m/b, with 4x 1Gb OCZ dual channel DDR2 ram.

hey, i have a problem with my comp when i attemp to overclock it. any ideas as to why this might be happening?

also using the ASUS tool, allowing overclocking from inside windows doesnt work either, as soon as i attempt the update, either a minute or two later, it resets the clock speed, or the computer will just lock up, and when i restart it, the clock speed will be back to normal. trying to overclock from the bios never works, as once windows boots up(usually wont even boot up after you leave bios till you manually restart it), the cpu speed is always back at 2.81GHz.

Is this video card compatible to my computer?

Thank you.

8500s are PCIE slots...So that calls for a PCI-E slot...But just my 50 cents...the 8500 sucks lol Do you have a set budget? If so please tell D: And do you know what slots your motherboard has? I have a emachines model: C3070. Can I use this card?

I want to change my video card to a Geforce 8500 GT. If AGP, where is that located? If it is not compatible, can u give me suggestions for cards that are also inexpensive. Will I have to use AGP or PCI?

Can't seem to find info on google

Newer Dx on an older card

Ok what is up?I have the ATI Radeon 9200 pci 256mb card http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_R200

But it says the card is made for Dx 8.1 but I have 9.0c how is that.

It'll only use what it can - DX8. Windows has earlier versions embedded for just this scenario {and non DX9 games}.

New graphic card

My system: Intel D875PBZ, Intel 4 3.2GHz, 2gig memory and presently using a Radeon 9800 Pro. PCI, AGP or PCI-e), what is your budget and what do you want to do, e.g. gaming, video editing etc

I would like some advice on getting a new graphic card.

Not sure what is wrong

I cleared CMOS and reset to defaults in BIOS setup and it is still the same. Write error. I assumed it didn't complete and turned off the computer. It showed an error at about 87% complete.

Also remember to post any problems or questions that you have in the appropriate forums

With regards to your problem, i hate to be the bringer of bad news, but if a BIOS update fails, it usually ends up in your motherboard being a big, expensive paperweight

It does not get past this point. Giga-byte K8NS Ultra-939
AMD 64 3500+ 200Mhz, Windows XP SP1. This morning after the usual load the screen goes blank when the windows screen usually opens up.

I boot up from the xp cd and it got to the point that it says setup is starting windows.

I attempted to use @BIOS from Gigabyte and update from F4 to F10 since I wanted to upgrade my CPU . The screen is getting power but it does not run past this point.

PC to Bose 321 Options

I want to listen to music from the PC on the Bose 321 (streaming or hard drive). I don't want to run any new cables from the PC to the Bose/HDTV. I want to view video from the PC on the HDTV (streaming or from hard drive). I have a Bose 3-2-1 connected to a Sony HDTV downstairs.

I don't need to watch/listen to anything originating from the Bose/TV on the computer (just one-way from computer to Bose/TV). I'd rather use the wired network than any wireless options, but I suppose wireless would be ok also. I have a wired network available between upstairs/downstairs as well as wireless network.

The computer is located upstairs. What are my options for marrying-up the two systems?

I have a Dell XPS 720 Intel Core2 processorQ6600 with 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX and X-Fi PCI Sound Card. I appreciate any advise you can offer !

Broken Processor Pin

So I would get a new one.

I thought for the worse but I tried it anyway, popped it in and my computer started up like normal. I can still play games and everything.

I recently moved my stuff over to my new Mobo and I don't know how it happened but one of the tiny pins on my processor was bent.. Bah I don't know what to do, people have been telling me they are shocked it even started up.

Wow, ya I thought a processor needed all the pins. Should I replace it? I guess it doesn't.

I straightened it out with a really small pair of tweezers but it was so loose it broke. Is this processor going to last any longer? But it could very well die later.

DVDs are not working at all, help!

The same thing happens when I put a dvd-R. The computer shows no sign of a cd, but when I put any cd that is not a dvd it works. Open the computer, while it's off and re-seat the cables to the motherboard. Is that correct?

It gave me a message telling me "door is open or disk is not present" Error Code: 8090000A, the thing is the door is closed.

I have windows XP and up until recently I put a DVD in my computer the dvd is not recognized. About 2 months ago I remember DVDs and DVD-Rs worked and i believe not much has changed.

Sorry about my typing and if this is not clear enough, but can somebody help me with this problem?

So both drives are not working? At first I thought it was my decoder so I upgraded to powerdvd 7, but that didn't help either. My DVD/CD-ROM drives are MITSUMI CR_4804TE and SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148. Then start the computer and go into the bios and see if they are showing there.

Nothing happens, it doesn't even show that a cd is there in MY Computer.

Driver problem after reformat

You will also want to try and get drivers for the motherboard and chipset from the motherboard manufacturer's website. not a PCI sound card) then the drivers for this should be on the same website as the motherboard drivers.

The pc's resolution is pretty ugly at the moment (16 bit graphic) and of course has no sound and i think is running on the default driver? He cannot find the disc?

Power up Problem

I took the computer back, "pumped" it again and it works perfectly fine. However the computer still wouldn't boot. However when my Superior whom I have to give all computers to before they are sent back out into the field tried to power it up.

I'm a student working in an IT department at my college that i'm attending and I have been brought a gateway LUX E4300 seires computer made in 2005, with a boot problem. I took the RAM out and tested it in other machines and concluded that the RAM was good and working fine. Any advice on to what to check or what might be going on?

Replace the power supply

The Mobo was getting power but when you hit the power on button in the front nothing turned on in the machine accept the light for the power button.

After doing this I plugged it in and the fans kicked on, brings up display on the monitor, and runs like nothing has happened at all. The fan didn't initiate and the ethernet USB orange light didn't turn on. One of my Co workers gave me some advice to unplug the power supply from the computer and "pump" the power button for about 15 seconds to drain all the power out of the computer then plug the computer back in and see if it turned on. When brought, the ticket stated that it had a memory error (the three beeps) and that the Computer wouldn't boot.

He got the same problem without the memor...

HP XH176 processor upgrade

What processors will work with the HP XH176 laptop? Im trying to see if I can upgrade to a faster one if my motherboard will allow it..

That will all depend if the cpu is removable, quite a few laptops have their cpu's soldered in and cannot be upgraded without a motherboard replacement which is usually very expensive.

Need help on building a new rig.

Also, for photo editing, is it neccessary to get a SLI computer? Could anyone please suggest some parts to get a solid rig. So that makes it about 1.3 -1.5k USD.

Erm the rig is more for photoshop and digital imaging as my dad is a photographer. I'm thinking Core 2 Quad here but please do give me advice. Erm, the budget would be around 2k SGD.

Searching for a Cable (VGA to Composite)

www.geeks.com?

My roommates and I recently went all in and purchased a receiver, projector, and surround sound for our apartment. Essentially, what we (or rather I) am looking for is a conversion cable that converts VGA into composite.

For the past few weeks, we've been content with watching movies and playing console games on the projector, but now a couple of us are interested in playing computer games on it as well. I have had no luck in finding such a cable online and would appreciate any help offered.

Have you looked on Cyberguys website? Now the university that we attend required us to purchase laptops from the university itself (so you can get an idea of the computers I'm talking about). Frys Outpost?

Riddle Me This...

I have been trying to route internet from my Vista laptop through the WRT55AG wirelessly, broadcasting to all other computers on the network... Amazon has quite a selection, but watch out for publication dates.

I am familiar with setting IP addresses, but I'm still a little foggy on how everything sorts out with DNS addresses.

Ok, I am not a network guru, but I have done some basic network setups with my trusty Linksys WRT55AG (modem to router, router to Computer X via either ethernet cable or wireless).

This being said, my ultimate goal seems a tad lofty to me, and I'm not even sure the setup I'm trying to accomplish is even possible... Help?

Way too much to post here. Try a book from the library, where even the two main Networking for Dummies books are excellent for this...

I don't even know where to begin, as Vista is a vast and strange landscape in my XP-oriented mind. I just moved into a basement apartment and I have a wireless Verizon connection that works well in various spots, and not so well in others.

Newbie at networks

Also do both computers need to be switched on to access this information? You should explain in more detail what you want to do though. in two different cities) that could share information....or use remote access to control the other computer etc etc, one is on XP and one is on Vista.

The solutions for different needs are vastly different.

I was wondering if it is possible to set up a network, or a network drive between two computers in different locations (i.e. please could anyone shed some light on how to do this if it can be done?

Game server NIC settings.

If your router supports QoS, set the game server to the highest priority.

The server is available to the internet its not just local. Im willing to try anything!

Your LAN is doing 100 megabits while your internet connection is 0,7.. Set up ICS on the server to share the internet to other computers if you like.

There is no point in trying to tweak anything in your NIC since the bottleneck is elsewhere. I do not want to run DMZ because of the security risks but i am told this could increase performance. The router is a Linksys DSL BEFSX41

Can any network experts tell me ways to improve latency in anyway? Im trying to get the best performance for the server i can and was wondering what settings i should have on the NIC card on the server to maybe scrape a little less latency between the clients that connect.

I can currently get about 50-60 average from a fellow UK client, to compare Spain is about 130. Putting the machine in DMZ might help, yes. I believe the bandwidth's 768kbs UP and obviously 20mb down... You could also turn off some of the features in the router like intrusion detection et al.

Ok this maybe frowned upon but im currently hosting the server on a 20mb VIRGIN DSL line. Although im only getting about 600-700kb at certain times MAX download. If you want the best performance, get rid of the router altogether and hook a DSL modem directly to the game server.

The server...

Advice For New CPU

However, I have heard of people using opterons for gaming processors, and I was just wondering which opteron processor would be good to pair with an 8800 GTS Rev 2 (Socket 939 of course) That is, of course, if this idea would even be practical at all.

Get this and o'c, best price/performance

http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=749

I am going to pair this with an upgrade to one of the 8800 GTS Rev 2 cards coming out soon. Due to the fact that my processor is socket 939, there are only a few available processors, and the only one which is really worth the money is the 4200+.

Hey, I am going to upgrade my Amd Athalon 64 3500+ socket 939 CPU as soon as I figure out which CPU I want to get.

Intel core 2 duo

In my experience, many systems with this mainboard have adequate CPU power for most users, but are usually very tight on memory (256mb/512mb) and thus operate very slowly as they are hitting the pagefile/disk too oftem for good performance.

I have the Pentium 4 but my computer is slow at times. I want something better like the core 2 duo, but I need to know if this CPU would work on my mother board. Here's the CPU Compatibility matrix for your motherboard:

How much memory do you have?

Can you help?

Can't get rid of subtitles Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1.

The subtitles enabled button is not checked, and I cannot see anything in the options that would disable it.

You need to disable the subtitles DS filter.. and with every dvd I play 2 sets of subtitles, one overlapping the other, appears. You should have an icon in your Control Panel or something in your Start Menu. I downloaded Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1.

VobSub or whatever you have managed to install without thinking.

Please help.

Big Video card compatiblity question + power question

Also, what kind of Shaders and Vertex shaders do these have? I went to pcpower cooling's site, went to the compatible PSU's for my dimension 3000 and found this:
http://www.pcpower.com/Dell/Dimension/Dimension-3000.html

I've read about alot of PSU's falsely stating the wattage due to some rubbish about the ampage on the 12v rail or something, can someone notify me if this is a legit card for my system? Well assuming I'm getting the x1550 how do I determine if the video card is compatible with my monitor? *This is my main concern*

Another question, again assuming I'm getting the x1550, I see the recommended PSU is 420W. So I'm convinced theres no way I'll be running this card without a PSU upgrade.

Did it on crucial and it should work fine. Now as many of you already know the Dimension 3000 only has PCI video card slots. Now, my original dell PSU is a 250W. Also do I absolutely need the PSU upgrade or should I get the video card and see if it will run without it first?

Ok so, I've got a Dell Dimension 3000, 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512mb ram. To my knowledge that would be better than the x1550, right? Im doing an upgrade due to my lack of a video card and sufficient ram for games. *I'm upgrading strictly for gaming*
I'm adding ram, going to have a total of 2gigs.

Or you can just upgrade =D

So, I did some research and found the best possible card for my mobo. ...

Computer restarts when cat5 cable is plugged into network card

So, I go ahead with this plan but when I re-enable the connection my computer decides to restart itself. If the computer is not connected to the network, it stays running like it should.

I was having network connectivity issues earlier tonight so I decided to disable my network card and re-enable it (I'm using xp home).

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

same problem from spyware ULTIMATE CLEANER

I have the same problem .. As soon as I plug the cable in the computer reboots itself. Have just restored a computer from
the ultimate cleaner malware and now everything works fine
except when I plug in the network and then the computer restarts
H e l p

I have noticed the computer restarts itself ONLY when accessing the network card.

I thought maybe the network card was bad, tried another one and the same thing is happening. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card in windows but as soon as the card starts to be installed again the computer reboots.

Need motherboard recommendation

My case will hold SSI, Extended ATX, ATX, Micro ATX.

I'm having some troubles finding the right motherboard for what I want. DVI or VGA monitors?

DDR 2 memory, right?

How MUCH memory and are you going to make upgrades? do you need DX 10 or 9? Need anymore info or have any recommendations?

How intense are your applications? I will be using dual Intel Xeon E5345 quad-core processors (Socket 771) and I'll be running 3-4 monitors. I'm not real clear on this PCI-Express stuff, but I believe I need a motherboard with at least 2 PCI-E x16 slots (which I haven't been able to find) to accommodate 2 graphics cards which I haven't picked out yet as again I'm not real clear on that part.

Canon Sd800

It says its a drwatso issue.

Hey all, well, to get straight to the point. Anyone have ideas on what to do to open the vids?

I deleted some to get some free space to see if the memory fill up was the problem, but it didn't make a difference. I have a 2gb memory stick for my canon sd800. ps. With the memory i have left, none of th videos will open.

They will upload to my folders, but whn i click on them to open, my laptop freezes. The only issue i am having is with the videos. I went to a concert and recorded videos that took up all of the memory. I inserted it the usb cable into my laptop to begin uploading the vids to it, but everytime i try to open any video, it won't let me.

I'd rather not delete anything else since it is that it was a great concert that i want to remember when i look at the vids. Try to open the videos with VLC.

i can see the vids on my camera and play them without any issues. I also took some pics at the event and they all open fine.

Need 64 Bit Drivers for Model: DX-SC5.1

Adding second HD

Here is a video Tutorial...

How would i kno if my computer is able to add a second hard drive(Dell 4400)? http://tinyurl.com/bdy7r

Your computer has IDE drives in it so you can add an additional (up to 4 total) drives to it.

The Master drive goes onto the END of the IDE cable. Be sure to set the jumpers to Cable Select and make sure that the bios recognizes the drive. Here are the specs: http://tinyurl.com/y3b5sw
You need to open up the case and see if the IDE cable going to the hard drive has 1 or 2 plugs on it like this: http://tinyurl.com/au33x Two go into the hard drives and one into the motherboards IDE controller.

If it is how would i connect it to my computer?

Yes you can.

Would this psu and case be ok for me?

Not sure. As far as how good its overload protection is ? You get what you pay for when you buy a power supply and it isnt somthing that you should skimp on even on a budget system.

Usually when a cheapie blows you end up replacing way more than the power supply and you actually end up spending lots more then it would have cost you to spend a few extra bucks on a quality power supply.

I'm getting:

2gb ram
intel q6600
ati x1900 xt
2 sata hard drives
1 dvd burner

Would this be ok for it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EZ-Cool-650w-...ryZ44949QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Well

I never heard of that brand, but it does have 38amps on the +12v rail which isnt bad and should run your stuff just fine. Cheap power supplies fail more often than more expensive quality ones.

Problems with Asus P5K-E Wifi Mobo.

They put in a (Asus P5K-E Wifi edition). Only now, there are periodic slowdowns, (Set harddrive to extreme performance, set power usage to high high performance)

I can't set the sound options in Battlefield 2 to creative X-fi, or the app will freeze up, (Tried reinstalling BF2 and X-fi drivers already) I can't press the simulate Surround Sound button in the console launcher in game mode.(Problems may be related.)

I can't set the BIOS Sata Config to ACHI, and have to use IDE, or windows won't boot.(Partially Solved, Jmicron is set, but drive control panel isn't.)

There are odd coloration spots in the form of rectangles on the monitor, but that ws with my old Mobo too.

I have the latest drivers for it.

My old mobo(Nforce 680I Lt SLI) got fried somehow, and I took it into fry's to gey repaired.

Computer Randomly Restarts After Mod.

Hey guys, see if you can nail this one. Would the order of the Power SW, Reset SW and HDD LED wires cause this, I do not have the manual for my MOBO so cannot be certain if they're in the right places.

I suggest you try your old psu even if just to eliminate the possibility of the new one being faulty. I'm out of ideas

All help appreciated, cheers.

P.S. I also did a disk check and it showed nothing.

Let me know how you get on.

Also the PSU supplied is more powerful than my previous one I think. I took all the pieces out of my old computer and put them in the new case. (Admittidly this is the first time I tried this.)
After hours of work and trial I managed to get it all to turn on, but I'm getting 'random' restarts, here are some observations about the restarts:

- Happens usually after I enter my password to login
- Sometimes logs in and will work for anywhere between 5mins and 3 hours
- Won't restart until I login, can sit at login screen for hours. Overheating should not be an issue I am pretty sure and my RAM is being detected.

I recently bought a new PC case, with a PSU. I have turned automatic restart to off. I have Windows XP, and nothing in the event log helps me.

Ibm laptop going into hybernation after installing acpi driver

or is there another problem that i'm overlooking? it had "unknown device" on device manager. when i restarted the system, it keeps going into hybernation after 2-3 minutes. still goes into hybernation.

installed xp. i used msinfo32 to identify that it needed acpi (advanced configuration power interface). the unknown device error went away. worked fine.

i unplugged cmos and main battery. reset hybernation option to never, reset all the bios to default. Someone answered your post on another forum with good info so I won't retype it: http://tinyurl.com/3y3pg5
Also look at the bios settings to disable anything related to Hibernation.

i installed it. my question is: would it go into hybernation if the cpu gets hot?

FIC K7M-NF18G (au31) issues.

My first thought was that I was screwed over by the seller by sending me a DOA board but i remembered the different FSB speeds and thought that maybe that has something to do with it. Now, before I go on, I know of the emachines problems with power supply and motherboard and this is the same case. I went on ebay and found a seller who claimed the motherboard can be used with this model number. remove the CPU and see if you get any bios beeps.

So I humbly come to all of you and hopefully one of you have had this issue before and can give me a solution. So I changed the fsb jumper settings on the board and tried it again and same thing happens.

Ok here's my dilemma. I gues I should've seen it in the picture the seller posted on the ebay page.

I am fixing this emachines t2858 for a client who wants everything how it was before it fried. I tried to get her to upgrade and purchase new motherboard, cpu, ram, and a new windows xp key but she claims she has programs on this machine that she does not have cd's for. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Misc/Q_21719553.html#a15850326[URL]

Here are the board specs:
http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/AMD/k7m-nf18g.aspx

and the manual for it can be found here:
http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/AU31_manual.pdf[URL]

I would really appreciate any help.

The CPU may be fried... If not, the board is defective

Need Assistance fixing my Kid's Dell Dimenssion 2400

These are what I had in mind, taking into account IDE support for the current HD and DVD Drive, power supply connections (250W) and DDR PC2700 184 pin memory currently in the system:

Motherboard: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186129

Processor: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819112234

On the other hand, being the cheap father that I am, I was also thinking of just replacing the processor (and, BTW, making it his Christmas Present). Please tell me if I am off the mark and provide any wisdom to aid in my adventure... The particulars for the MB follows:

Board: Dell Computer Corp 0K5148 A01
Bus Clock: 400 Mhz
Proc: Intel Celeron 2.4G
8K Pri memory cache
128K secondary mem cache
socket: FPGA 478

I have been flirting around with a couple of possibilities for fixing it.

Cheers
Robin
U r a nice father

I have looked over the socket (FPGA 478) and it doesn't look like there is any damage there. First I was thinking of rewarding his curiosity by replacing the MB and processor with a higher end micro ATX board and more robust processor. Going from a 2.4G Intel Celeron to either a:

Intel P4 2.8G: newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116215

or a

Intel P4 3.0G: Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott 3.0GHz Socket 478 RoHS Version Processor Model NE80546PG0801M - OEM

I understand that changing the MB means a new Windows XP liscense, and I am already prepared for that in...

Sound Issue

I use iTunes so this is kind of a problem for me. Also remember to post any problems or questions that you have in the appropriate forums

With regards to your problem, try going to the Sony website and reinstalling your Audio drivers.

Anyways, I installed Vista a while back and since my headphone jack is not working right. It will only work with certain programs like Windows Media and various websites.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop, it's a VGN FE66OG if that matters.

Reader/Burner Drivers Problem?

Also it's a 2 in 1 if that might be good to know. If this doesn't help then it sounds as though the drive is broken.

Thank you really much for your time,
Dealman

Try reinstalling the drivers for the drive. Also the disc icon appear next to the mouse.

Sorry for most of the stuff on the image for being Swedish. My cousin looked around a little and he found this:

I'm not sure if that has something to do with the Reader/Burner problem. If there's something specific on it wich you want translated just tell me and I'll translate it for you.

When I put an CD/DVD in it and close it, I only hear an ticking sound.

Problem finding a simple router to connect two subnets...

Please help with suggestions about what kind, brand, model, etc. Am I overlooking the obvious? of router would allow this application. I wanted to use static IP addressing for each PC with a class C IP address and the standard subnet mask.

I wanted four PCs on one subnet to connect to a hub, and the uplink of the hub to connect to one interface on the router. As I'm in the development contract for this advanced class this week and next week, I need to get this worked out pronto, as I need to have the proposal submitted to "the powers that be" by next Friday. That's the physical topology of the network. It's been some time since I've been in, but necessity drives me here and frustration is close behind.

There are seven stations in the classroom, with one desktop PC at each station. Each PC has an integrated LAN controller on the motherboard. So why can't I find a simple router with two interfaces that can both be configured as default gateways to access each remote subnet??? Also my Network + Certification textbook has the same EXACT configuration in it.

I teach Personal Computer Repair for a community college and have been asked to develop an advanced class. BTW, there is no WAN access and this will simply be a LAN application, but I still need TWO default gateways to get from one subnet to the other, hopefully in the same router. You should be looking at business-class routers (expensive!) or build your own router ou...

Network performance testing....advice wanted

Any and all help really appreciated. We've had a fluke test done and their is plenty of noise etc on the cat6 cabling that has flooded our building. Your problem is likely in the box, however, rather than in the cable. If it can detect and report on bad transfer or errors on the line then even better.

Any macusers may be familiar with Helios LanTest. Running a server 2003 domain with xp pro workstations. What i'm looking for is some software that will perform network benchtests between 2 points., data reading / writing / packet transfer / all that stuff really. This is a time when an hour of a skilled, certified, Network tech at $85 to $140 and hour would probably pay off.

I want something similar. Quite often we get specific users complain of extreme slowness and being disconnected from the server. Suggest you consider using top quality shielded plenum CAT6 cable, because noise on Cat6 is pretty rare. I have to do this over the xmas holidays

Don't know of anything good that is free.

He or she will have the test equipment needed.

So, i want to run a cat5e cable directly from their pc to one of the switches, thus bypassing the floorbox, the cat6 that runs from the floorbox to the presentation panel, which in turn goes to the switch. Then i can work backwards to see where potential problems are.

So i'm only dealing with the nic in the pc, the newly made cat5e cable a...

RAM! 1066 or 800

well anyways... i would try to get the lowest cas latency ram ddr2 800, i dont think that ddr 1066 at a higer cas is worth it as it may only give a tiny boost in performance if that for the price

whats better
1066 or 800 sli memory
see the problems is 4 gigs of 800 sli mem
8 gigs of regular 800 mem
or 4 gigs of 1066 mem

give me something anything i need to buy now!

Hey all, long time! thanx

tons of luv

if you have vista 32 bit it can only handle 4gb of ram and you wont need 8gb anyways unless you are doing some high end apps.

Verifying DMI pool data.... then it does nothing.

I have tried messing around in the bios, changing the sata settings from AHCI, to RAID to legacy/IDE - no change in this behavior. If I just plug in my Sata dvd drive, then it's fine - although of course there is no hard drive connected to install anything onto. it sits there at the "Verifying DMI pool data" stage.

Here are my specs:
gigabyte ga-x38-dq6 motherboard
LG sata dvd drive
2xWesterd Digital 1TB GreenPower HD
1xSamsung 1TB hard drive
(same problem no matter which one of the 3 above HD's are plugged in).
2gb corsair ram. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try? When you start the Windows setup press F6 so it asks for disk controller drivers also some bios have a weird thing where u have to disable raid for it to detect SATA drives without installing drivers even though they show up in the bios.

The BIOS indicates the hard drive and dvd drive are detected just fine, but the hang still occurs.

please help.

Try changing the boot order to CDrom first also You need a floppy with the drivers for your SATA controller. Basically, if I plug in any harddrive (none of them are formatted/have any data on them, because I can't get to the point where install begins) then the computer just hangs...

HP dv1040us - expanded the memory, worked for a few months, now it won't turn on

Since my mother has the exact same laptop, I tried to make sure that the problem wasn't with the charger or batteries by switching them etc.,-- trying her batteries in my laptop, trying my batteries in her laptop, trying my charger in her laptop, etc., So I suppose I could safely assume now that it's my laptop that's busted and not any of those two? I hear that it's common for HP/Compaq laptops to experience this kind of problem as caused by overheating... Does the expanded memory have anything to do with it?

But if anyone could offer a theory, I would also like to know how much it would cause me to fix that particular problem. Last July, I decided to expand the memory, so I bought a Kingston 1GB memory in place for one of the 256MB ones in my laptop. Anyway, I just need people to speculate for me right now. You can get an idea of the cost here:

http://www.fastlaptoprepair.com/motherboardrepair.asp

I've never used them but just to get an idea of how much the repair would be!

In the first year that I've had it, the fans got busted, so my laptop would suddenly shut down when I used to run too many programs or if I used to run memory-intensive ones like Adobe Photoshop. Two days ago, when I turned on my computer and while I was surfing online, it just shut down again. For instance, how much would a motherboard cause? Thinking that my previous problem with my laptop was repeating itself, I ...
