From the Forums

A user in the forum details it further:

The computer is still randomly freezing though. Please help! I also ran an Adaware scan and a full Nod 32 anti-virus scan. However, not long after the same issue started up again.

I have used a couple different mice lately on this computer so eventually I went back to the other previous mouse. This issue has been going on for at least a couple weeks now. At first it seemed that randomly my mouse pointer would suddenly freeze and I would have to reboot the machine to gain control again. I tried to eliminate every problem these scans found.

I today did a disk cleanup of drive C (I have multiple hard drives), and defragged drive c (although the computer froze during the defragging process and I had to manually reboot). I tried deleting/disabling drivers of the mice and deleting/reinstalling their drivers, etc. but to no avail.

The machine is: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit Intel 2.4 GHZ quad core processor Corsair 800 mhz dual DDR 2 @ 4 gigabytes Creative Soundblaster X-Fi sound card Verto NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT video card   Remove NOD32 and download and install free Avast, Advir or AVG antivirus. See if the freezing stops   Recently I noticed that it seems that the whole computer is freezing and not just the mouse pointer.....as far as I can tell.

Computer randomly freezing(computer stays frozen until I shutdown)

Like what about programs that check certain hardware(besides RAM, since I used memtest86 already) that may cause freezes?

2. I wasn't doing anything in particular, just using Firefox to browser the web.

3 of the freezings occurred while I was just browsing, 2 occurred while my computer was starting up. My optical mouse still lights up when the computer freezes though.

Recently(about 2 weeks ago), my computer started freezing. I also installed various security patches from microsoft update. I downloaded and installed the latest version of WinRAR and Quicktime player(recommendations from Secunia).

3. I downloaded and installed Secunia PSI.

2.

Does anyone know of any programs that'll help me figure out why my computer is freezing? I used memtest86 and done 3 full tests, no errors on any tests.

2. It happened 5 times already(one of them occurred as I was typing this post). Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to figure this out?

After the latest freeze(during browsing), I restarted my computer only for my computer to freeze again after 3 seconds(screen stayed the same, it happened right after it showed me my memory test). Does anyone have any idea on what may be causing this?

3. I'm just pointing this out in case you should be able to activate those keys in the event of a computer freeze. Did anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on my computer(I used: Avast, Spybot, Adaware).

3.

Just wondering. Any, the questions are:

Computer Is 'freezing' Randomly

I also looked at my Hijackthis log and could find nothing strange. This is kinda getting annoying, and this is my 3rd keyboard this year (dont ask about the other 2 ), so I really would like to fix it. I havent put anything new on, no viruses, etc. But when I start doing something (even something simple like 1 internet window) it will just freeze.

If I use the ctrl-alt-del thing and get rid of one of the svchost processes, then it seems to do ok. It might work again after a while, or it might need to be reset. Does anyone have any ideas??

HDD nearly full?

It starts up normal, takes normal amount of time to start up. Defragmented?Tried testing the RAM with memtest86?Any errors in the Event Viewer at the time of the "freezing"?

Hey all, my computer has started acting strange the past few days.

Computer Keeps Randomly Freezing

So this has been happening for a while but it has been increasingly frequent nowadays. Of course my computer is a little old and that might be the problem but I think there might be malware that could be doing this as well. Capslock and numlock do not respond when i press it on the keyboard. Have you run a Nod scan from safe mode?Let's run this either way from norml mode. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will ...

Computer Always Freezing Randomly

I don't know what else to do???? It has XP Home Edition. The computer freezes quite randomly. Let that run and test your memory.

Pay special attention to your processor fan. Seems to freeze more when running more than one application or doing something that is harder for it (downloading etc.) which seems normal, but it's not consistent in it's freezing. Check all fans to make sure they turn freely. Next, I would download Memtest86+.

This computer is about 2 years old. This is a free stand alone memory diagnostic. Overtemp problems could cause freezing or reboots.
I have a Dell Dimension 8400.

Pentium 4 CPU, 3 GHz, 2.99 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

I can't remember how to check to see how much free memory I have but I know it is a decent proportion. I went through and got rid of the start up applications that I don't need running (on start up) and I cleared history, temp files, cookies etc. We have McAfee installed (virus scan, firewall protection, anti-spam) and it's set to automatic update.

Anyone? I hope this helps,rigel

New computer freezing randomly.

I was also under the impression that Windows XP officially supported upto 4 GB of RAM; however, that it wouldn't utilize all of it. If the machine works ok with 3 GB run with it. However, whenever I stick in all 4 of them it starts freezing randomly. One other thing you can use the old hard drive from the PIV as a slave drive in the new computer and use it for storage or what-ever else you need.

Any suggestions? I really appreciate it.

Welcome to TSG.... This is my first post on this forum, so nice to meet you all. If there isn't then I guess I might go out and pickup Windows XP Professional (64-bit).

If you want to move up to the 64 bit version of XP Pro try and find an upgrade disk it will be a lot cheaper than the full version. It has the following specs:

CPU: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHZ 8M
Memory: 4 GB TEAM XTREEM DARK PC6400
Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI PLUS
HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL 500GB 7200RPM PATA 16MB
Graphics Card: ATI RADEON X850XT PLATINUM EDITION

Note that the graphics card is actually my old graphics card. Okay, now I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 (32-bit). I recently did away with my old P4 computer (which was approaching the 3 years of age mark) and built myself a new rig.

As I understand it this should be no problem (even if the Quad Core is 64-bit). Most cards these days are too expensive and mine runs most games fairly decently so I decided to just hold on to it until nVidia's firs...

Help Computer Randomly Freezing

For a while now my computer has been freezing seemingly at random and I am at a loss as to what to do at this point after trying various things.

Originally I was having some bsod problems back in about June which eventually led to a windows corruption which couldn't be fixed so I got a new hard drive and installed windows 10 onto the new drive.  I also put the old drive inside the computer so I could access files if I needed them.  Things were going find for a while then I started to play skyrim back in between September and October.  Skyrim would work fine sometimes   other times it would just completely restart the computer or freeze up causing a jittering of the sound.  After searching around it seemed others had the same issue with skyrim at times.  I updated my video card which helped a little but I eventually stopped playing that since I finished what I wanted to do in it anyway.

After that I had about a month or so of the computer running fine maybe 1 bsod during that time at random.    Anyway then came the new windows 10 creative update that happened in December .   Since then it has been freezing quite often at random.   Doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing.   But more often than not the freeze happens within the first half hour.  If it doesn't happen in that first half hour the chance of it freezing seems to drop drastically and will more often than not work fine for hours and hour...

Computer keeps on randomly freezing

Louis

So today I did a clean install of Windows 7 today and the same thing is happening with only Win7 on it. Add overheating to the list at COMPUTER FREEZES - http://www.jrwhipple.com/computer_hangs.html . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a while now my computer has been freezing randomly and I get that "not responding" message on the window but it eventually does strart responding. It can happen at any time whether I'm browsing some site or when I'm not online. Is the hard drive on the way out?

Could the motherboard be going bad? Any ideas as to whats causing this?

Computer randomly freezing up?

Nothing shows up in my HijackThis log.But this freezing up problem has been come accompanied with a blue screen of death which for some reason mostly pops up when i leave the computer idling. Any help on why my pc is doing this? I started happening ever since my pc froze while burning a DVD with ConvertXtoDVD and i restarted it manually.

It seems to occur more when I'm online but after the 30 seconds it goes back to normal. Its quite annoying it does it about every other 1 or 2 minutes.

For some reason my computer randomly for like 10-30 seconds at a time. Also i download a lot of RPGs since i like playing them and stuff could this be a problem? Code from the Blue screen and its 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x804E3687, 0xF7A67BB4, 0xF7A678B0)

Over 40% of my HDD is left and i've ran a ram diagnostic and everything passed fine for that.

My PC Specs are GeForce 6600, 1.8GHz AMD Athlon 3000+, 1GB Ram, Windows XP SP2. check your tempretures and voltages

New computer freezing up randomly

I just got my computer back, had a screwed up motherboard. We have no clue as to what we
are dealing with.

NOTE- if this is the wrong place for this message please move it, thank you.

Power supply, mobo, cpu ram, etc,,,,any new hardware
or software changes of late...
Then the same thing happened again later but it said "Please Wait- Adjusting screen" in a little blue box infront of the black, the box went away and it was just black screen, so I restarted and was on for antoher hour and went to bed. So 3 times, once restarting itself, and twice going black, can anyone help? Some system specs would help alot.

I thought nothing of it but later I was just surfing the internet when the screen went black and I could do nothing, so I restarted my computer. Been working fine till yesterday when during a game of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War it shut down and turned back on.

Computer freezing randomly please help

The freezes happen at random from one hour to five hours to straight after booting. At first i thought it was overheating so i replaced the thermal grease and still it freezes. When it freezes the monitor is on the fans are still spinning but i can't move my mouse or press cntrl+alt+del.

Please help me fix my computer from randomly freezing.

I haven't had it crash yet in safe mode. Not that I thought heat was the cause, but just because it was a cheap thing to try and the original stuff looked like clay. I usually wait at least a few minutes before I do the hard restart. Sometimes it will occur during a game, or while surfing the internet, or while I'm doing nothing at all.

I would scan the registry with those and then hit "Fix all" and let it do it's recommended actions automatically. I've scanned with Norton 360, CC Cleaner, Ad Aware, Hijack This, Memtest 86+, Western Digital Data Lifeguard for Windows, and Glary Registry Repair. I also opened it up and blew out the dust. I also started a thread and was told my Broni to post a new one here, so here is the link to the last thread that I started: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,82425.0.htmlMy info is as follows:Windows XP Home Edition SP 3 (build 2600)2.60 Gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core2 GB MemoryAsus M2n-E SLI MotherboardATI Radeon X1950 GT 512MB Video CardMy Sound is onboard soundLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:47:53 PM, on 4/29/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16791)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOW...

Computer freezing randomly

My computer is as follows:

MS Windows XP Home SP3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, 2.0 GB Corsair XMAS2 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

My computer has been freezing for what seems like ever since I built it. I would appreciate it very much! I also used Windows Memory Diagnostic and another memory diagnostic tool (I forgot the name), last fall multiple times and two days ago -- both came up with no issues with my RAM either. Please help me fix this problem!

I tried updating my drivers. So I'm completely confused to approach this thing. This is a custom built computer, so when I was doing research on how to fix freezing problems, I came across information on PSU not sending out enough power? I did notice recently that my CPU is getting around 50-51 h/e.

But I'm pretty sure most of them are up to date. I reformatted it in January/December ish, and it eventually started freezing again randomly. When I talked to my friend who helped me built the computer, about the PSU potential issue, he confirmed that it probably isn't the PSU because he hand picked the parts I was going to use and my power supply is sufficient for what system I have I guess (Enermax Model ELT500AWT).

Any information you need to help me, I can provide. Happening multiple times every day and requiring a restart.... EDIT: It's also not overheating; I use the Core Center program and generally my temps stay at 37 - 45 (Celsius) for CPU and Syste...

Computer Randomly Freezing...help

I'm not sure if I am even infected with anything but these are the main issues that I am having:1. It also happens when I leave it alone doing nothing. It will open but wont do anything. My computer posts fine its just windows that takes forever.

Internet Explorer does not work.
I'm lost and I'm hoping someone more experienced can help me out. This problem is fairly new and has only been happening for about a week.2.

It happens when I'm using it, browsing the internet, playing games etc. Sometimes it happens once per day sometimes every couple hours. Its been like this a couple months.3. Windows takes on average 5min to start up.

That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. I though it may have been overheating but it happens at all different CPU/system temps. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

My computer is randomly freezing.

When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. It doesn't blue screen or reboot it just stops dead in its tracks. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forumThe techs in that foru...

Computer keeps freezing randomly

Try disconnecting it temporarily

On Tuesday of last week (8-21-12) I turned on my PC like I always do. I have NO idea what could be causing this. Could it be a failing power supply?

here are my computer specs. Please is there anything I can run or do to try and locate the problem? I dont wanna spend money if I can target the problem and replace the hardware thats bad. I put it on Extra with Cache on and had it run 3 passes.

it took about an hour and 20 min and windows found no errors or anything. and it has not. After that a few hours later it did it again.

So I had to hard shut down the computer. Are all the fans running normally? after about 10 minutes of being on and me opening up Diablo 3 my computer completely froze. and it has not" The easiest thing to start with here is the power supply.

Is the PS under the lifetime warranty? the one I have in there is a 4-5 year old 1000w psu. nothing would respond not even Ctrl+Alt+Del. So with me being the way I am I Reformated my computer to see if that would solve the issue.

So everyday now that I turn on my computer it seems to randomly Freeze. I built this computer myself and it has had NO issues since I built it and this time I cant figure it out myself. this time I was just on internet explorer. Case - Corsair Obsidian 800D
Mobo - Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
CPU - Intel i7 930 2.80GHz
CPU Cooler - Corsair H70 water cooler
Ram - Corsair Dominator Triple c...

Computer Randomly Freezing up on me.

I am a novice when it comes to computers, so of course, I am confused on why its doing this to me! So, I am posting this myself. I took it to another friend of mine, who works with computers everyday for a living and he couldn't get it to quit freezing up either! But, when I found the post, I could not reply to it, with my input.

What do you folks think is wrong with my computer freezing up? your friend who works on computers all day ,did he test to see if it was overheating by touching things inside the box [as we cant not sitting in front of the box] did he change the ram to see if it might be the cause, or the CPU ,sorry I cant offer much else, as so many things cause a computer to freeze

I have done everything that is possible on my own to fix this problem, but its now beyond my expertise!

I would be glad to hear from anyone who has an idea of what they think is wrong with it. My computer, which is an ASUS brand computer, that was put-together by a friend of mine, who has a computer shop of his own, was purchased about 3 years ago and is now randomly freezing up on me! I figure that its either the power box or the motherboard? So, it has to be something really serious with it!
