Dell m1730 stuck on Dell screen since doing a force shut down.

For some reason Windows automatically locks up out of a blue and I've got to do a force shut down to unfreeze it. I followed the tutorial here by taking the battery out and holding in the power button in for a few seconds but this solution is no longer working and the loading bar gets to 75% or less and does nothing. I am starting to think it is a graphics card issue due to Windows locking but I am not sure. I've been told this is a bios issue and I got told to downgrade from A11 to A10 but the problem has not gone away.

Has anyone got any advice what this could be? I've got an issue with my Dell XPS m1730 laptop. So my laptop did it again last night which meant having to do another force shut down but now it is stuck on the Dell screen.

I think this because the dark colors look blocky and blinking plus the font looks corrupt.

Dell XPS M1730

This happens when it's plugged in to the wall with a battery and without a battery. (Was trying to rule out a battery issue.) It does not hold a charge, so the battery is pretty gone anyway.. but it's not related to this problem that I can tell. But I wouldn't replace that in 6 year old laptop, I'd replace the whole laptop.

Just curious what you guys think might be going bad, so that I can get it replaced before it stops turning on completely.

Basically, when I turn the power on, the power icon comes on, I hear it booting up, but none of the lights on the LCD or the mousepad, or the other random lights come on, including the screen.

This issue I am having is hard to google, I am not entirely sure what to search for. This will happen 5-6 times, then randomly it will just turn on like normal.

I just fresh reloaded windows 7, to see if it was a software problem, even though I was pretty sure it wasn't. Thank you!

My guess would be the motherboard. This is happening before and after the format/reload. So I have to hold the power button, turn it off, then turn it back on.

DELL XPS M1730 woes

I managed to use the BIOS to identify the internal graphics chip as a GeForce 9800M GTX , as DXDIAG just says it's a standard VGA display adapter. It runs fine, genuine and all that..except it has 2 unknown devices bumbling about in device manager and that simple indie games with no business complaining about the graphics are refusing to run. Thank you.

Have you gone to the Dell wegsite and input the service tag # to see if drivers for Win 7 are available? I had to install .net framework 4 and DirectX myself (Install and update, respectively) and the problem of course still persists.

It would put me on a black screen, I would not hear the welcome jingle or anything, and I would always have to do a hard system restore from the repair console . The unknown Devices are listed as :

"3D Video Controller"
"PCI Device"

Let me know if you need more information, please. I've searched for drivers and tried installing updated windows 7 graphical drivers for this specific card.

Downgrading to Vista may be an option , but given that Vista is utter crap I'd really rather not. The next time, Windows 7 would not boot up.

Hey all! So in short, the problem is, the device runs fine...except for gaming.

It came with Vista but when I got to it it had W7 ultimate on it. At which point, naturally, it would run. Of course if the problem isn't avoidable, I will have to. I'm using a notebook someone lent me.

Upgrading my M1730 Dell

The question i have is what is cheaper, and what gets me a better machine. XPS-M1730
Processor -Intel(R) 2 Duo Core
Processor- Type t9300 @ 2.5 GHzz 2.50 Ghz
Video Card- NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT
Ram 256mb

Is that 256 mb of ram or video ram? Below i am going to list some basic specs of the m1730. If that is all of the ram that you have you have no where near enough to run Vista.

I have an 2007 Dell M1730 and when it comes to gaming it have done an outstanding job. Anyone who could give me advice on price management, or even suggestions for new processors, ram, hard drive, video card, and other important aspects would be much appreciated. It can play very early games with no problem, but now that we are in 2013 i have had to resort to the lower setting of games.

I was playing on either doing an overhaul, or just buying a brand new computer. Newer gaming computers can cost as much as my mac book pro.

Dell M1730 DVD errors

I'm currently on vacation and don't have access to my normal diagnostic tools or software so any links to such programs would be greatly appreciated. The update completed sucessfully, however the issue still remains that the drive is recognized as a cd drive in my computer. Is it the Sony DVD-R disks or is there a driver issue that I'm overlooking? I then installed IMG Burn freeware which has always been a reliable backup program and still am having issues.

I currently have tried Roxio Ultimate 2009 which used to burn DVD's flawlessly. Regards,

I have a Dell XPS M1730 running Windows XP Pro SP3, which see's the DVD drive as a CD drive in My Computer however, is device manager it see's it properly as a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H. As I wasa attemtping to burn a DVD Video last night using Sony DVD-R disk's, Roxio claimed that the disc needed to be formatted, which seems strange to me.

I then un=installed the device for device manager and rebooted the system and it foundthe new hardware but withthe same results as before. First I updated the firmware for the DVD Burner, which I obtained from the Dell Support site. I appreciate any and all suggestions as this one has me stumped.

Very annoying charging problem - Dell M1730

I have checked the part that goes into the laptop, as in opened it and checked it, there was no obvious damage. Also, I do not have another M1730 or similar laptop I can try my adapter on but I don't think it is my problem, mainly because when I leave laptop for a while it takes power and it just stops taking power randomly

Any other things I could try? So I have no idea whats wrong, Could it be the mother board? Why is it working if I leave it for a while?

So basically my laptop isn't taking power, my ac adapters connector piece that goes into the computer has been examined and there was nothing abnormal there. Thank you in advance. My laptop:
Dell m1730
4gig Ram

So my Dell M1730 one day decides to stop charging and then slowly looses its power until it goes dead, I have had this issue once before, so as I did before I let the laptop sit there for a couple of hours then plugged the power back in and it worked again. Also, It will boot without the battery but I have to leave everything unplugged after an 'episode' for at least 3 hours before my laptop starts taking power, and then when I start without battery it loads but doesn't make it to log in screen and eventually just shutdown straight away.

Sorry if im in the totally wrong area, first time post. But now whilst im on it, it is always detecting the charger then not recognizing it and so on, until eventually it just stops detecting it and goes flat, and I have to wait a couple of...

Can't view TV on Windows XP through USB TV Tuner on Dell m1730

I have the latest version and when I try to boot up Nero Live and click actaully try to watch TV it will freeze on me. Same thing with Nero 9. I will install the program file, set up the channels and everything in the settings menu, but when I click on the atual TV icon, it freezes and restarts. I am ripping my hair out here, trying to figure this out.

Oh I forgot to mention, I have Windows XP with SP3. Please help !
I tried the newest version of Cyberlink PowerCinema 5. I then tried to install the drivers dell has listed on their site for video as well as the Ageia Physx drivers and STILL when I try to play TV it freezes on me.

None of that helped. Its interesting to note that Television worked fine through Windows Media Center 2005 on my other laptop the Inspiron 9400 using the same Dell Angel USB Tuner. I also uninstalled my newest video drivers (downloaded from nvidia site) and installed older versions.

The drivers for my TV card seem to be the only ones available. I read somewhere online where new codecs might be at fault, so I uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack.

Dell Xps M1730 failing to load at startup. Help

Mersenne Prime Test (Prime95) - Run overnight

Good day, I have Dell Xps m1730. Any suggestions? Recently it began a physical memory dump when it suddenly switched off.

Seatools - Short & Long Self Tests if given option
It sounds very much like it's hanging at enumerating a device at startup and the device is preventing your PC from continuing its load process. At this point from memory it normally would tell you what devices and check it was running( from memory it's the ms-dos screen? It may very well be a hardware failure.

Re-seating the hard drive inside the laptop, as well as the memory. It just stays there. The UBCD is an excellent recovery tool (make sure you have CD set to load first in boot order). Otherwise, have you never been able to get past this since?

You can start checking stuff by either:

A. Thankyou for any help in advance

Check to see if you have any cd/dvds in your drive(s), or you have usb drives, external HDs, etc., plugged into your PC. B.

You may also wanna check the boot load order by going into your BIOS setup screen at startup and making sure your Windows HD is set to startup first. Unfortunately nothing happens when it gets to this page. I so far have run the diagnostics and that runs without any trouble but doesn't find anything. Do some hardware testing.

Any of these may interfere with the startup. When it attempted to restart, it switched on(as in the power came on an...

Dell xps m1730 laptop display not getting power?

Thank you for any help in advance. Black Screen Issues and Troubleshooting

If the screen is not working on boot then it is most likely a hardware problem.
it will start workibg randonly for apprent reason. I have a dell xps m1730 running windows vista 86 bit.

The laptop has a the g15 gaming keyboard lcd which also receiving no power. This has happened suddenly for apparent reason. Its got this problem of having a blank screen that seems to be getting no power on boot up. If not, take a read through the black screen troubleshooting sticky.

And the only way to fix it seems to be to leave and try it every no and then. If so, I suggest seeking help with Dell support or an authorized Dell service provider. It has done this twice before.

I dont think this is a hardware problem.

Sorry if this has been posted before ive searced the internet for hours and cudnt find anything. The backlight is not busted becacause it wud mean that the keyboard lcd would at least work. It seems to work when it wants.

Dell XPS M1730 Crashes / Powers Off when I unplug charger.

I took pictures.

The battery works just fine I can mess around in BIOS on battery power I can even install windows while only running the battery, however once inside windows (Windows 7 ulimate x64) if I unplug the charger it powers off / crashes..

Dell xps m1730 laptop fan runs - alot - fast then slow

Does anyone have an opinion on those? Before that, my fan was quiet and I actually heard it only after my laptop had been running a long time. Not sure.

Do I dare downgrade my BIOS again? It started a few years ago after I flash-upgraded my BIOS from A10 to A11. This gives it plenty of airspace to keep the battery module and motherboard from heating up too aggressively. I have started to look into some Fan Speed Controller/CPU/GPU Temp Monitoring software.

Now, I hear it all the time with an interval of approx 20-30 secs and a duration of approx 4.5-6.0 secs per interval.

My DELL XPS M1730 LAPTOP FAN RUNS ALOT - FAST THEN SLOW. SO - what can I do to get my fan to quiet down? So I have effectively raised up my laptop 3" in the back by the display hinge, so the CPU/keyboard half is gently angled.

I used some plastic triangle pyramids of the variety that are used to elevate small pieces for painting.
