A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Having a sign that tells us of issues that we need to solve in life for us to move forward is a great idea. While it does not always work in life, it does in computers. Messages that indicate the issues your computer encounters are called error codes. They appear whenever there is a problem such as incorrect data input or faulty hardware. Computer programmers add predefined error codes and messages in their system codes so whenever there is an issue, it prompts the users. While error codes may be predefined, there are different sets of error codes with different meanings for other kinds of computer programs.

Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/513138/unable-to-logon-a-problem-is-preventingchecking-license/ - Hamluis.

I have the same problem, and since the proposed fix is shown, thought I would continue the question [since fix cannot be done].

Have been using XP SP2 and installed SP3 several weeks ago.  All was working great, therefore I backed up my work via Ghost....several times.  I did have a problem though that prompted me to restore back to an earlier restore point, several times and different restore points and all worked fine.

The last time though I thought the problem I was having might be due to SP3, so I restored to a restore point that was created before I installed SP3.  When the computer rebooted, I received the error code above 0x8007007e  Warning states that the license cannot be verified.  I do have the license on the shiny mirrored sticker that is on the box for the original disk.  I can get to the user log in screen [I am the only one who has used this computer since it was new and I have the discs that came with it new] and after logging in, it shows the error code and shuts down.  I cannot get into the computer to even attempt to fix by the suggested fix.

I really like my old clogger [have a new Macbook Pro but prefer the old MS].  I need help to solve....please.  [If this should be posted new...let me know and I can do that.]

error 0x8007007e when attempting to open programs or pictures larger

i would appreciate the help very much and i thank you all for your time

also i posted this in the performance section because i figured since it was photoviewer and other programs, all different types of programs that this would be the right section, i hope it is, and im sorry if it is not. Have you tried running system restore to a time you didn't have this issue? System Restore

when i try to do a search on this error everything i find is related to windows updates mainly not being able to update.

its a windows 7 x64 computer, now the programs im using are basic programs that have worked for me for close to 2 years, recently when i try to view a picture larger or open programs(any program at all) i get this error 0x8007007e says there was an error and the program could not be opened showing me that error, sometimes the programs will still open anyways, sometimes i have to retry multiple times, and other times i have to restart the pc to make it work. im at a loss on what could fix this problem.

Outlook "Unknown Error 0x8007007E"

I tend to thing this is more of a system/Office level problem, vice Outlook, because of the errors in Word/Excel. Recently did a XP pro install (instead of a plain upgrade), which didn't help. No help. I thought it was some Microsoft spyware that was unhappy about the new hardware, and ran the upgrade for XP to reregister.

Also, IE didn't work initially, but magically started to work OK. I can send mail with no problems. not sure which XP or Office reload did it... I checked for, and found, inetcomm.dll in the System32 folder.

I recently replaced the hard disk on my Dell PC using the disk copy utility which came with the hard disk. Everything seemed OK until I tried to run Microsoft Office 2003 applications. I downloaded a registry cleaner to see if that would help. I was unable to run the Office repair utility or even uninstall/reinstall the package.

I found and ran the scanpst.exe utility which found/fixed errors in my pst file, but did not fix the problem. Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Other Office apps (Word, Excel) launch but give me a "Preparing to install" window when loading.

I downloaded and ran the Windows "install cleanup" utility and removed/re-installed Office 2003 to no avail. or the registry or who knows...

The main problem is Outlook which gives me the error "Unknown Error 0x8007007E" when trying to receive email. Maybe now, I shou...

Post back with the outcome. Try powering up the computer from a 'Cold Start', while continually tapping the F8 Key. Does anyone know how to correct this?

When I click on "Advanced Settings" I get "There was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in" followed by it "failed to load. What I am not seeing is how to uninstall and reinstall Windows Firewall...any other program or hardware issue, that would seem to be the easiest solution - but I have yet to see how to do that with Windows Firewall. I have gone into services as an administrator to try and start Windows Firewall...it isn't there - not in the list of services (local)

I also used SlimDrivers to update all the drivers on the computer. Apparently infected applets were installed through Java.

When I click use recommended settings, I get a message that says it "can't change some of your settings. PS - I'm not very computer savvy, but I am very good at internet research and following directions. Error code 0x6D9."

I scanned the computer using both Avast and Microsoft Safety Scanner (full scan and took over 2 hours) - no infections or issues found

I installed all Microsoft updates and followed suggested restarts. If I can't get the firewall back to "ON" is running Avast or AVG enough to keep the computer safe?

I ran Microsoft Fix It and I get a message that the firewall isn't running or stopped and it can't be fixed. Restart the Windows ...

Microsoft update : 0x8007007E on Windows 7

I have an 0x8007007E error while trying to use Microsoft Update on IE8. However, Windows update (the one built in windows) works but it only gives me updates for windows. Windows Update should take care of updating IE8, it is a change from the former way of doing updates. I have an 0x8007007E error while trying to use Microsoft Update on IE8.

P.S. - Sorry for the delay in responding, but it looks like the issue is solved for you.

Windows Installer, Error Code 8007641 or error code 641

This is my first day on the site and unsure how to get around on it, but it seems like it's an exciting site and I'm looking forward to using it. Thank you. I'm unsure why I'm not able to use windows installer anymore and I'm not able to get valuable updates from windows without it.

Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, were they able to come up with a solution? I had meant to say that all of a sudden I can't use windows installer service I get error code 8007641 or error code 641.

Started with error code 0xC0000006 and now I have Error Code: 0x803002

Error Code: 0x803002f

Any help greatly appreciated.... You may need to attempt SFC up to 3 times to repair damaged System Files. If these fail then you can try the Repair Install after establishing a Clean Boot per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. Please reconfigure your boot.wim to use the flag 9 settings for the first image and restart your installation.

The reason for attempting the repair is that the System File Checker says there are files that it could not repair when I ran it. I ran it originally because I couldn't install or uninstall anything.

This is a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. But first disinfect per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

With error message (0xC0000006)

Now trying to repair Windows 7 with the upgrade option I get:
Windows was unable to create a required installation folder. I'm trying to repair with the disk it was installed with originally. I would get an error: This application was unable to start correctly. Then SFC may run better from the Win7 installation media or System Repair Disk Command Line: SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If there is any problem go with the bootable scans in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start as the OS may be in the death grip of infection. But you may be better off copying out your files to quarantine to follow these same steps for a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of...

Go to Solution. First thing you may try is the Automatic Repair.4. If that does not help, then select Command Prompt.

Solved! Got this message this afternoon. FailedUpdates Error Code:80073712 and Error Code:800F081F

No-one replied to this post and so the problem was never fixed.
(The updates continued to fail downloading or installing)
I upgraded to Windows 10 Home and thankfully didn't need to have the updates installed to upgrade. Back in April this year I downloaded two important updates:

1) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3023222)

2) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3032663)

However during the installation I encountered Error Code: 80073712
I tryed the installation again without anything else open and still the same result
I tryed the installation again having restarted and still the same result
I tryed the installation again after running the DISM Tool and still the same result

Yesterday (17/7/15) I tryed to download another important update:

1) Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3004365)

However during the download I encountered Error Code: 800F081F
I tryed everything that I tryed previously and still the same result

I searched around and both of these error codes apparently mean that a file needed by Windows Update is either damaged or missing

I thought I might as-well start a thread about it on these forums as not being able to download/install security updates isn't a good thing

Please Reply!
