How To Fix Have to underclock Radeon 4850 core or PC crashes
Have to underclock Radeon 4850 core or PC crashes is the name of the error that contains information about the error, including the reason why it occurred, which system component or application was malfunctioning that caused the error, and other information. The numerical code in the name of the error contains data that can be decoded by the manufacturer of the faulty component or application. An error using this code can occur in many different places in the system. Although the name contains some details, it is still difficult for the user to find and eliminate the cause of the error without specialized technical knowledge or the appropriate software.
From the Forums
A user in the forum details it further:
I had also tried cooling and fortunately I had an accelero s1 from my last card so I got some zalman copper heatsinks and put them on but it still crashed even with all temps below 55c. My system specks are in my profile aside from the gpu clock which was before I had tried it in games. Would overvolting the card help? have you turned the fan speed up on the card? I have been having a problem with my 4850 for a while now.
The crashes vary sometimes I just get a black screen but the sound continues and I can shut down my pc with the keyboard but others I just get a black screen and the sound will stutter for a few seconds and it just Ether goes black or projects black or a color and a bunch of vertical lines that are usually green. I have been looking this problem up constantly for the past few months and even though other people had the same problems none seems to have found a solution other than underclocking. When I play Crysis, Mass Effect or occasionally when I play Fallout3 or Oblivion I will get several types strange crashes unless I underclock the core to 600 for Fallout and Oblivion or 550 for Crysis and Mass Effect. i have a 4850 and play crysis and fallout no problems at 685 core so dont know why your having a propblem.
Some of the people had replaced or sent the cards back to the manufacturer but they continued to have the problem. At first i thought it might be the drivers. It also happens in furmark but not in 3dmark vantage. So I waited for 9.4 and it did happen a lot less but i would still get crashes in Crysis and Mass Effect but the 9.5 drivers made it a lot worse and lowered my frame rates so i went back to 9.4.
I did find out that I can still overclock the memory without any instability. Though I someone suggested it was because of the motherboards only supporting pciex16 1.0 instead of 2.0 but unfortunately I don’t have the money to get a new motherboard to test that. also thats an xfx card just make them repair it or send ya a new one.
What causes Have to underclock Radeon 4850 core or PC crashes

Common causes are incorrect or unsuccessful installation or removal of software that could leave invalid entries in the Windows registry, the effects of a virus or malware attack, an incorrect system shutdown due to a power failure, or another factor in which a person with little technical knowledge accidentally deletes the required A system file or registry entry, as well as several other reasons. The immediate cause of "Have to underclock Radeon 4850 core or PC crashes" is a failure when one of its normal operations is properly started by a system or application component.

AMD's six-core Phenom II X6 CPUs will underclock three cores and automatically overclock the other three
Posted by Sean Portnoy @ 7:57 pm
More details have emerged about how AMD?s forthcoming six-core desktop CPUs, the Phenom II X6 lineup (a.k.a. I just bought a quad for a new build now six!)
I too only recently built this PC.
Thuban), plan to handle all that processing power when most applications still can?t make use of four cores. I have to say tho, I'm always in the mood to build an upgrade
Re: Satellite L855 - Intel Core i7 - AMD radeon 7670M - Major graphical crashes
Please visit Toshiba download page under http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and try to install latest display driver. Problem is that such issues are not easy to fix. Do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook? Theoretically you can either reinstall OS and check it with ?factory settings? or try to check if new display driver is available.
Few minutes ago the screen crashed, came back with black lines through my screen and half of the desktop was stuck to the other side:(
Also when playing games it shows black squares on the screen.
Please Please Help me. I do have about 400GB of downloaded movies and files if that may cause this, but that shouldn't because it's a 1 TERA hardrive.
After doing that check if the same happen again and, of course, send some feedback.
I don't want to resort to sending it back to the manufacturers because that would take weeks :(
Hmmmmm.... When watching videos the video's lag and show random colored squares, and often the whole computer crashes showing only blue and white lines. Neeed any help please!
it is not easy to say what is wrong there. I have tried everything:(! I have bought this laptop recently not even a month old and it's starting to become very laggy at times. Please!
Crashes unless I underclock my GPU.. Help narrowing down the problem?
If possible try not to use an adapter on the power connections. Make sure that you have the right power connections connected (1 or 2) to GPU and fully seated. SpeedFan and GPU-z are good apps for that. Check to make sure that your fan is working on your GPU and see what temps it's reaching while in use.
Is it something else I haven't thought of? I thought I was overheating, but my temps were waaayyy too cool for it to be that (like, 60C). It is my first one, so I only vaguely know what I'm doing. In the midst of trying to fix this issue, I actually sent it back in and got a warranty replacement.
Make sure you have the latest driver installed for your GPU. Now, my question is, knowing that underclocking fixes my errors, what is the problem? Same issue.
Wasn't sure whether to post this in BSOD section, or here, but I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to my GPU, so I posted here.
I was getting random crashes though when my system was under load, that I kept under control by tabbing out of my games and letting the system idle for a while to "cool down". Make sure your GPU is installed in the right PCI slot. I don't think the card itself is at fault.
One, make sure the new GPU is fully seated and locked in place. And low and behold, I haven't gotten a BSOD since. Specs:

GTS 250 vs. HD Radeon 4850
Here is my build :
CPU : E8400 @ 3.00 GHz. of 1280*1024
So My PSU's fan is noisy so I'm going to replace it, and I was told if I replace my current GPU with a GTS 250, a 500 Wattish PSU will run it easily. HD Radeon 4850, oh and since my GPU slot is PCI-E 1.0 x16 ( not 2.0 ) and since both of those cards are 2.0, which of them will run best in PCI-E 1.0 x16 slot?
So for PSU now I'm good. So main question is GTS 250 vs. Ram : 2x2 GB 667 MHz
Motherboard : Gigabyte 945PL-S3P
GPU : ATI Radeon x1550 ( the thing I'm looking to replace )
Monitor : VA712 17'' monitor with max res. Graphics Performance List
But I'm kind of confused now, ( I'm buying locally so there are 2 cards available in my budget ), there is also HD Radeon 4850 and the price difference is like 10$ max so I'd like to go for the better between them. The GTS 250 and the HD 4850 are almost matched in performance.
Anyone Using A Radeon 4850 with Win 10?
I have a spare Palit Radeon 4850 video card I was going to ship to him for use in his system. Looks
like it is.
He is unable to upgrade to Win 10 due to his onboard Nvidia 6150 SE Geforce 430 graphics chip. If this card will allow him to install Windows 10 I want to send it to him.
He wants to try Win 10 really bad as he hates Win 8.1. Not quite that old, but I run one machine with a 5770.
My father has a Compaq PC running Win 8.1 right now.
Win 10 install keeps telling him his onboard video chip won't work with Windows 10. He lives about 300 miles away so I can't just drive over and install it. Is anyone running Win 10 using a Radeon 4850?
ATI Radeon 4850 (Going up to 110 °C)
If you do not know, BF Vietnam was made in 04 and 1942 was made in 02. EDIT: Just want to add. No its not, its the reason your computer turns off. It Idles at 76c.
But from the day I got it, It would never play any of those games. BF2 was made in 05. Does not help when playing games. Also, This is weird but I can play BF2 at max and stay at a stable, 92c.
I have tried getting the dust out of the comp and what not. So If you can help me, That would be amazing. It was ATI Radeon 4850. Added some vide of what they look like In Game
I think that's the reason why I can never play any of thoses games without lag.Click to expand...
btw, I installed ATIExpert Tool. The most aggravating part is how it shuts off my computer in mid game. For some odd reasons, I saw videos of it playing games like GTA IV on max and so on. But I can't play BF Vietnam or BF1942 without going over 100c.
I think that's the reason why I can never play any of thoses games without lag. So I gonna cut this and get down to the point, my GPU temp always gets to 110 (C) when playing games. But it is too hot, if you can control case fans, turn them all the way up, and turn up your fan speed on the card. That is even when my room temp is pretty cool.

Radeon 4850 bad or Something else!!
I just recently built a PC for gaming/Personal (Mostly gaming). Hmmm, let me ask you a question since you had your motherboard, did it give you any kinds of problems ? B- My PSU does not take kindly to the 4850 and has a hard time powering it on, now i can't see that being the problem i have a 750w PSU so their more than enough power to push the 4850. I also tried diff plug on the PSU to the vid card to see if maybe their was a bad Power connection to the slots, still nothing.

Help with very low FPS with a Radeon 4850
Before I was using a Radeon HD 3650 which pretty much didn't allow for much, primary game being WoW. Help!
Ok, first thing;
it looks like your mobo has onboard graphics, is it definitely disabled? With everything I've changed out, I'm only left with the fact that I have an old CRT monitor and I'm using a Intel Celeron D 356 3.33GHZ processor. is AA and AF on?
I don't think your cpu would be a bottleneck for WOW gaming, but i don't play WOW so can't say for certain. I've gotten everything up and running but when I go to play games, I still cannot get out of 20fps when playing WoW even when OC'd and when I look at sample benchmarks from this specific card i should be getting MUCH better. In the past week I have upgraded from 667 DDR2 Ram to 2gb of 800 DDR2, switched to a new motherboard (in my system specs dropdown) as well as a 630W PSU from a 450W PSU. If so, are you using the latest catalysts for your 4850?
What res are you gaming at? Can either of those be the issue at this point or could there be something else that I am possibly missing?
I'm trying to create a gaming machine on a budget.
Some help about an ati radeon 4850
Did you remove the old drivers? Did you restart?
Ati radeon hd 4850
My Samsung SyncMaster 2443 uses an ATI Radeon Xpress Series (0x5954) Adapter and is uninstalled when it's time to install the proper drivers/software for the ATI RADEON HD 4850 Graphics Card (PCIe). After that is taken care of, within 5 minutes I get the BSOD!!! Any suggestions on how to handle this, steps to try or something I'm just outright forgetting here?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro x32bit with 4GB RAM and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 DCP 4400+, 2200 Mhz.
how about 'no - never had a problem with it?'
i used to have one and it worked great. at the time it was an absolute bargain, and i loved it. i only upgraded to a 4890 after i bought a 1920x1080 monitor, and found the 4850 didn't quite have enough oomph to push all those pixels about.
The Blue Screen Of Death informs me that a recent change to the Graphics card or adapter caused the problem. The computer is beyond the system requirements and should work fine, right? i sold it to a friend and he's still happy playing modern games with it on his smaller monitor.
After the reboot if I get a screen at all, it's effected by the weight of the card itself and must be adjusted by hand until the "green" goes away.
Help with HD Radeon 4850
you know when you watch a tv show and in the background is a computer and you see the refresh lines going up and down it.. or is this like a, search microsoft for win 7 monitor drivers?
i have my PC plugged into a new Samsung LED 6300.. if so where do i get a drivers for a samsung c6300....
nothing is working, im just confused... hardly noticable but when its there you cant take your eyes off of it... and i see refresh lines on the TV... its very annoying.
the card connects DVI to hdmi, and ive tried 2 different dvi to hdmi cords no difference, ive tried putting the tv in 16:9 and screen fit, ive made sure the resolution is 1920x1080p. i dont know why it would do this
could this be a driver issue... im trying to use the catalyst control center to get this fixed but its not helping, the tv has a 120hz refresh rate, but i know only 60 can go in right? ...
please someone help me, i'm getting nowhere with this..
ATI Radeon HD 4850 x2 Crashing
someone please help!
When ever i play something intensive like crysis or aion, i can only play it for about 5 minutes before it crashes, whats going on ?
Radeon HD 4850 BSOD
Plus make and model if a retail computer. What could be causing this? I also put a Rocket Fish 550w PSU in the computer.
It will get past the Windows XP screen then it will stay blank. This will help someone help you.
I just got a Radeon 4850 HD card today and installed it and Windows won't boot up all the way. I had a video card in the computer before but I sold that and I put this one in and Windows won't boot properly and I thought maybe the old video card drivers were conflicting so I tried re-installing Windows but when it's about to get to the installation screen it will BSOD.
ATI radeon 4850 vs 4870
The 4850 was 180 before but now the open box product is like 135. Should i get that, or should i dish out the extra cash ($244) for the 4870. My pc wont be specifically for gaming since i game mostly on my 360, but i still want to be able to play some of the latest titles on my computer.
so ive been saving my pennies these past few weeks with plans on purchasing an Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850.
I just went on newegg to check on it today, and noticed that the card i was going to get is only available as an "open box". any recommendations?
I would just get the 4870. returned item? refurbished?
i also noticed on the "mid range buying guide" on techspot that they changed it from the 4850 to the 4870. Also, consider the Sapphire 4850 if you don't want to spend the extra cash.
what exactly does that mean?
Cheapest Radeon 4850?
Without going to Newegg, where's the cheapest place I can get an ATI Radeon HD 4850? Tiger Direct: 512MB Radeon 4850
Tiger Direct: 1GB Radeon 4850
Tiger Direct: 1GB Radeon 4850
Tiger Direct: 2GB Radeon 4850
Are you looking for a 1 Gigabyte 4850?
I'm in the USA.
I am having problems with a HIS ATI Radeon 4850
AMD Athlon 7750 (Black Edition)
4 GB Ram
ATI 4850 (ATI 4550 before that)
(If you need any more info let me know)
Any response would be much apreciated, I am very frustrated and need some help.
I recently purchased an ATI 4850 (512 MB RamDDR3) I installed it and tried to run a newer game (DoW 2) but it tells me I do not have the graphical capacity to run it. I am very confused, and would apreciate any help, I have also updated my directX.
I have updated my drivers numorous times, and when I use a program to check if I can run a certain game, it tells me my video card only has 128mb ram.
2GB Radeon 4850 on an SLI motherboard
I have an Asus M2N SLI motherboard and have always been a customer of nvidia but have been considering a switch to Radeon. Nor will that card require Crossfire alone.
Anyways, I was curious about whether or not performance would be effected by using the ATI card on the Nvidia mobo? However, I've been thinking about getting the 2GB Radeon 4850 which is essentially two cards in one running Crossfire no?
So would I be able to use one of these cards by themselves in my SLI board or would it cause problems? I know that you can't run Crossfire on an SLI board but I do know that a single ATI PCI-E card should work just fine. I like the prices and the performance of their current generation of cards.
Radeon HD 4850 X2 Spy Pics?
Radeon HD 4850 X2 Spy Pics? Maybe around 350 range, give or take?
After the initial launch of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 you never heard a thing about the rumored 4850 X2 so it seems a bit odd that the card would be coming out now but, if it is priced right, it could be a popular option.
What do you think will be the retail price of one of these? Is there a Radeon HD 4850 X2 still in the works? The card will have 2GB GDDR3 memory, core/memory clock will be 625MHz /993MHz. Our sources hints that the card?s final name will be ?HD4850 X2 2GBGDDR3 PCI-E QUAD DVI-I / TVO?, that means the card will come with 4 DVI and one TV out.
ATi Radeon 3870 or 4850 & Is My PSU Enough
Get new one with at least 32A on the +12V rails combined and two PCI-E power connectors. As long as i can hold off a new PSU till i get more money, then i'll get the 4850. I can get the 3870 for around $126 [ASUS, comes with Company of Heroes] and i can get the 4850 for around $195 [after instant rebate, comes with scratch and win card, comes with GRID]
This means pricing is also a factor if i need to get a new PSU. I'd recommend the Corsair 550VX as an excellent choice.
its a Sparkle SPI 400W with 18A on one rail and this PSU has 2 rails which basically doubles the Amps.
Well i'm thinking of buying a new video card on Monday and i'm stuck between the 3870 and the 4850.
3870 has more memory bandwidth and has a dual slot cooler which will help with temperatures while the 4850 is way more powerful but a single slot cooler which will increase the temperatures
So which video card should i choose? Also is my PSU powerful enough?
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850
I don't use any of the other PCI slots on my motherboard, so I'm not bothered. But do both these have exactly the same performance?
There seems to be a blue coloured one, with a double slot fan and a red one with single slot.
