And my line relibilty goes down from 255 -138 can't figure it out could it be phoneline?

I have a cisco 1720 on my network and its pluged into a 2950 cisco switch.the eth light is suposed to be steady but i blinks and my remote store slows down sometimes aborted.now i run on a 56k frame{i think i'm the only} but the phone company has test and says everything is good, now i have reset our equipment on both sides does not make a difference.but if i reset the switch where the router is pluged into it works great again for about 24hrs then goes back to the way it was. I don't know.

Cisco 1720 Question

I have gotten conflicting answers...some say with a particular IOS, others have said the processor is not suited for trunking. When I do Sh Enc at the config mode prompt the encapsulation command is there...does anyone know if the 1720s are capable of trunking? Whenever I try to enable subinterfaces on the fixed FastEthernet port of the 1720 to enable an 802.1q trunk link, I get an % Unrecognized Command. I have to setup a network for a small business and was intending on using VLANs.

Cisco 1700/1720 AC Adapter?

c.) knows where I can get one for about 10-15 shipped. ($20 is the absolute maximum I can afford to just totally waste on this.)
Mods, if this is inapproprate for the forum, feel free to delete it.

I posted in FS/FT for one of these (where it probably should be) but haven't gotten any bites, so I figure let me ask in the networking forum if anyone:

a.) has one to sell cheap in case my router is indeed shot

b.) would like to lend me/rent one to me. I'll pay shipping both ways.

T1 + cisco 1720 + utilization = huge latency

Am I have delusions of sunshines and rainbows or should the router be able to balance traffic/requests with some kind of QoS so that something like ONE FTP transfer doesn't cause our connection to shit the bed and be useless for everyone else. What seems odd is that when I initiate a downstream FTP transfer or HTTP transfer (ie windows update) and am running at 130-140KB/s, all latency goes to shit. Any ideas?

You could setup traffic shaping to limit bandwidth for certain applications. The only thing I can think of is that we flashed it about a year ago with new firmware (but even then our TAC contact wrote all our config values into the firmware and we flashed it with that).

I really don't seem to remember it being this bad in the past.

We're maxing out our bandwidth on our T1 at times. I can understand that if we're sending/recieving more data than can fit through our pipe we're going to drop packets. What's frustrating is that when our usage is pegged, latency goes to shit.

I've spoken with a collegue who has the same router on a T1 and doesn't seem to have the same issues. It's somewhat understandable as we've increased headcount and there's a lot more younger employees on our network. You may want to poll your router for SNMP data regarding errors/cpu and memory utilization. show process command may help also

Cisco PIX configuration

Is there any web GUI for this? I believe it is just being used as a PPTP and firewall. We just took over a network that has a PIX 506e as the firewall.

I need to know how to reset password, and also see whats setup.

password recovery steps are outlined here:

There is a web GUI available, depending on which version it is running. Steps to configure a PIX are outlined here:

Cisco ASA 5510 configuration help

I'm trying to configure NAT on my ASA5510 but i have never worked with Cisco before. Also is the 5510 worth the effort? It has some years on it by now. Running latest ASA, ASDM on it.

just create a object for your inside network and then in that object after you specify the range or subnet do a nat statement.

The interfaces is up, WAN,LAN. What do i have to configure for the NAT to work? ie:

ciscoasa(config)# object network my-inside-net
ciscoasa(config-network-object)# subnet 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0
ciscoasa(config-network-object)# nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface

I have a Plus license on it. I have DHCP from my ISP. And i have upgraded the memory and CPU.

CISCO 871W configuration

The first segment on network a (along with my wired devices) and a 2nd segment that has a complete different dhcp server and devices here cant talk to the first network. The problem is, that this script doesnt activate any of the firewall features, and for the life of me, I cant get port forwarding from the outside to my servers inside. I configured this thing originally with all the firewalls and port forwarding working, and this is the configuration that I am currently running, because I have to have access to services inside my network from outside. Anyways, I have found multiple config templates from places like tech republic, but still need lots of help configuring this thing.

I have a cisco 871w (which I thought had the advance IOS, but have learned I have the standard ios). I actually found a config script at tech republic that gets me the dual wlans, dual dhcp assignments and eliminates the cross talking. So maybe I should take the other approach and try to extract the dual wlan creation commands and add them to my working port forwarding/nat/firewall configuration. Personaly if you have the original config that you should have backed up before starting I would restore to that and use the web interface.

It will be easer to do.

You have to go back in and enable it later. I have two or three templates that each allow me to enable a specific function that I wish, but cant seem to combine them to achieve what I want...

Cisco 2900 Configuration

I realize I could connect my wan connection from the cable modem into anther switch but why do that when I already have a managed switch that should be able to do it? Why not put a couple of interfaces on your external "WAN" VLAN? Just set allowed VLAN's on your trunk.

You could do private/promiscuous interface - but you don't want to do that. Port 0/24 has my Wan (cable modem) connection, port 0/1 has the 802.1Q trunk which is running a "router on a stick" configuration. Port 0/24 is using vlan 005 right now. What do I need to do to have 0/23 share the internet connection without using vlan?

Uhh, not so much.

Is there any way to configure a port to be both vlan and non vlan? Are you worried about your .1q trunk?

I have a Cisco 2900XL setup and working with 5 Vlans. What I would like is for Wan traffic to be available on port 0/23 also.

Voip Configuration--cisco

I do have a two port FXO card in the router but am unsure how to configure it, any suggestions? Included with this thread is my configuration.

I am using two Cisco CP-7970G IP Phones (SCCP) and have configured them to talk to each other; now I am trying to get them to call out.

I have a Cisco 3825 Router and a Cisco Catalyst 3560G PoE Switch that I am using as a test lab.

Cisco Configuration Backups

I have looked at some of the free tools that are available however they really suck. I was wondering what some of you guys are using for this task. I recently started a new job and they do not have any type of automated configuration backup in place.

In the past I have used Kiwi CatTools and WinAgents software to automate configuration backups of switches, routers, and firewalls.

I am also aware of the archive command with recent versions of Cisco IOS however it seems to only be supported on routers that can run version 12.3 and higher.

We use Alterpoint and/or CiscoWorks here.

I went to look at the tools that I used in the past and now the price has gone up quite a bit on this software.

Cisco Configuration Troubles

So here's my deal. But when I take that connection into a Cisco 2801 with the following config set on FE0/1, I can't do squat:

interface FastEthernet0/1
ip address 66.66.241.180 255.255.255.240
duplex auto
speed auto
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 66.66.241.1Click to expand... your computer might not care but the router will

I can go Cable Modem -> Static Windows Connection
And I can surf the net using these parameters (Changed a few digits... But networks are the same):
IP: 66.66.241.180
Subnet: 255.255.255.240
Gateway: 66.66.241.1
DNS: Open DNS

Like I said, it works. Anything you can think of WHY? I'm afraid it might be something else in my config to do with the NAT or something, but really don't want to post up the whole config here.

ill assume the static route is a typo and was meant to be 66.66.241.1

anyways, the subnet masks on both interfaces put the default gateway out of the wan-ip's subnet.

Help with Cisco Switch Configuration

I believe the models of switches are the 2950 for the rooms and a couple of 3750 switches for the main closet. Apparently they were defaulted but VLAN 1 is still disabled (I understand why, not arguing that), but they need it re-enabled.

I have someone I'm trying to help out with a simple network that inherited some cisco switches. I already ordered the usb->console->RJ45 cable I'm going to need to connect, then I suppose I'll have to install drivers and use putty to access the console. . .that's where I'm currently at.

I didn't think that VLAN 1 could be removed or disabled, per se.

I knew that you can isolate it by not assigning any trunk or access ports, but not outright disable it

I'm not too familiar with Cisco IOS as I haven't touched Cisco since taking some classes for the CCNA over 5 years ago. . .can anyone help a guy out with some tips on the commands I will need?

Basic Configuration of Cisco 2948G

There are a few things noteworthy with that particular switch, it does not support Portfast or AutoMDX. Last configuration change at 04:16:10 PST Thu Jun 22 2000

! I'd actually guess that the interfaces will look more like FastEthernet4 and 5, than 1-3. You can learn the concepts on this switch, but if you decide to move to a newer one in the future, the syntax will be different as will many of the options available.

With nothing configured out of the box, this switch will pass through all traffic to all ports just like a dumb switch will. version 12.0

Script for Cisco Switch Configuration?

I have about 60 Cisco 6509 that my boss makes me make changes on from time to time. Any suggestions?

Ciscoworks Resource Manager Essentials would be perfect for this. They are running CatOS. I think Solarwinds also has a comparable solution called Cirrus (something).

Basically, I want to find a way to automatically telnet into each one and do the commands. set tacacs server 10.x.x.x primary
set tacacs server 10.x.x.x
set tacacs key XXXXX
clear tacacs server 10.x.x.x

set ip permit 10.x.x.x snmp

This is my latest batch.

Cisco ASA 5505 Configuration Question

Add on top of this, that one user is a Mac user, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it. I'd like the SSL VPN to notify them to update their password when the expiration date hits, which currently it does not, it just says access denied. How do I setup the ASA to pass through that the users password has expired and needs to be updated, and then passes back the updated password to the AD server?

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/command/reference/p.html#wp1879916

The all require VPN access. The issue with this, however, is that some users ONLY VPN in, and are never in the physical building. I know this is possible, because I am a VPN user for a Dell hosted environment that has this setup.

Alright so pretty specific question here that I'm pretty sure only a Cisco guru with experience in this will know.

I have a client, that is using a Cisco ASA 5505 as their primary firewall. Right now, I have them setup to use the AD server on site as their RADIUS authentication server, so they can easily use their AD account for SSL VPN access. Because of security requirements, we'd like to force the users to change their AD passwords every 90 days.
