How To Fix laptop- system board replacement

TIP: You should click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system speed.

Most computer errors are identified as internal to the server and not actually concerning the hardware or any device that can be of concerned to the user. One example is a system error where the problem violates the procedural rules. System errors are not recognized by an operating system and it notifies the user with the message, “A system error has been encountered. Please try again.”

A system error can be fatal and it happens when an operating system stops for a moment because it is in a condition where it is no longer operating safely. Some of these errors are stop error, bug check, system crash and kernel error.

Working on a laptop computer gives you flexibility and portability. Since it is prone to frequent transfer, manufacturers make sure that their systems can withstand almost every risk including spills, transport and jostling. However, laptops are still prone to wear and tear both inside and outside. Laptop errors may include hard drive failure, system crash, not enough memory and virus infestation.

Apart from the time delays on your computer work and the lost productivity, there is also the issue of expenses to fix the errors, not to mention the calls to tech support. For fatal laptop errors, some cases may require you ship your laptop back to the manufacturer for repairs.

A user in the forum details it further:

What causes laptop- system board replacement

Corrupted system files in the Microsoft Windows system can happen and it shows in the system error reports. Though an easy solution will be to reboot your computer, the better way is to repair the corrupted files. Microsoft Windows has a System File Checker utility that enables the users to scan for any corrupted file. Once identified, these system files may be repaired or restored.

There are several ways to fix fatal system errors.

  • Disable driver signature enforcement
  • Use DISM command
  • Replace corrupted files
  • Run a SFC scan
  • Repairing your registry
  • Remove your recently installed drivers or application
  • Install latest updates on drivers
  • Roll back the drivers

While laptop computers may be prone to errors, there are also quick fixes to most of these ailments. If your laptop experience slow hard drive processes like a sluggish file transfer or program load times, your solution is disk defragmentation. Upgrade your RAM if your computer needs more memory and has a slow performance when using several applications. If there is excessive pop-ups, your computer may be infected with a virus.

Run a free virus scan or install an anti-spyware program. When your hard drive failed and create a loud clicking sounds during data access from the hard drive, replace your hard drive or use an online backup site.

Y560 i7 laptop went dead less then a year and half old, need system board replacement

When I plug in the A/C adaptor, the laptop did not charge but continue to run on the battery only until the battery was drained at very fast rate, from fully charged to dead in less than ten minute! I do not think it is fair to replace the motherboard only in 15 month. I have an old IBM X61 tablet I bought more than five years ago and it is still good.

The A/C adaptor still put out 19.7 volt at the plug and seem to be perfect. When I remove the dead battery and plug in A/C, the laptop did not boot at all, seems to me the charging controller went bad on the system board.

I bought a Y560 i7 15 month ago. It developed a problem yesterday. I down loaded the "hardware maintainance manua" and followed the diagnose procedure which tells me the system board needs to be replaced.

This is a perfect case the Chinese company has no respect for quality and only want to take advantage of US consumers. Appreciate anyone has some experience in this area. It was a shame that the solder joint from the DC power input to the charge control was so poor it got burned out. Can this circuit be replaced instead of the whole system board which is very expensive. I hate Lenovo put out junks in the market lately after the Chinese company took control. Shameful Lenovo put out junk that broke in 15 month!

System Update doesn't work after System Board Replacement

I have the maintenance key. When I boot from the drive the Thinkpad Serial Number Update Utilities screen appears. After choosing the option to change the serial number the screen request a long serial number starting with 1S.

I was able to create a bootable USB drive with the Maintenance Utility files.

Solved! When I choose the option to delete the EEPROM the message appears ?C0TpREADEEPROMBlock: Write access to Block#84 is denied Status=0xf, EEPROM fail when reading or writing data? How do I update the serial number in the BIOS? For our T440 laptop, I been using 1S20B7S0XXUSPF00ACZZ. (20B7S0XX is the machine and model type, US is the country code, and PF00ACZZ is the serial number) When I try to enter this number the message appears ? Data of the same device type is already in EEPROM?.

Go to Solution. Version 2.02 of the Maintenance Utily does not give the options shown in the T440 Maintenance manual.Using version 1.83 gives option compatible with the manual but it is requesting a serial starting with 1S and has 16 charactersWould appreciate some help

System Board replacement

The systemboard on my laptop went a couple of weeks ago, I found a replacement on eBay with the serial #30L2589 the number on my system board 10L0947. Are these boards compatible?

Replacement System Board

I can return the PCI Video and USB adapters but not the Maxtor 80GB Ultra ATA/133 drive and ME. Your board is a socket 5 board with no real replacement out there. What would be a suitable replacement if you would be so kind as to enlighten me? The case and power supply will be of no use on a newer board (probably an AT form factor).

SeeYa

It did boot fine following the installation of the new HD and ME. Not really much you can save. and was experiencing intermittent episodes of it not booting up.

My new machine's monitor, which I used while working on this old POS, was saying there is no video signal coming from the old computer. My suggestion would be to keep the video you bought, the hard drive and the floppy. I was in the process of upgrading it with a larger hard drive, WinME, a couple of USB ports, potentially more RAM etc. Your choices are to look at used computer shops for an old socket 5 board or to shell out a couple of bucks for a bare bones system.

The memory is probably 70ns dram and will not be able to be used in a newer board. As far as a replacement board, you are probably wasting your time.

I have an old Gateway P5-133 computer with an Evergreen MX-Pro 200 cpu upgrade on an American Megatrends system board.

The rest is very outdated. The evergreen chip will only fit a socket 5 board and you can go much much faster with a low end $30 duron processor. Regards,
Doug

T30 system board replacement

How interchangeable are the boards?

I have a T30 type 2366-86U that I believe has a bad system board (plug in the new charger and the only thing that lights up is the battery indicator- plus I can smell the plastic getting hot- pretty sure its the board) The tag says 236-86U. Anyone know if the two boards (or any other 2366 model) will fit in the machine?

I've been through the KB and read the HMM but there isn't any information about the antiques I'm working with! I can get a replacement real cheap off one of those bid sites but its a 2366-FBU.

Almost 1 month and still no system board replacement

Has anyone else had any probelms getting a replacement system board for a T420S?  I have been waiting for a tech to come out on a three week old laptop to replace a bad system board and still am awaiting a backordered part. I would demand a (new) replacement laptop -- especially since you're within the 21 day period.  Get in touch with Customer Care.

R51 (2883) System Board replacement

R52 (1859-4AU) System board replacement

What is the right system board for my ThinkPad R52 (1859-4AU)?I know that if the system board?s video resolution does not match the LCD it will not work. The Lenovo site does not have my 4AU suffix listed, only shows it has 1400 x 1050 resolution. Welcome to the forum!Whether you believe it or not, any R52 board will drive your LCD with no issues.Any board specified under # 18 here, excluding R51e planars, will work just fine:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-58946.htmlTwo caveats:a) Don't get a board with an IEEE 1394 port since your frame doesn't have that openingb) If you get a board with ATi graphics you'll need a different fan.Hope this helps.

T410 System Board replacement

There is no good list available. Solved! It is integrated graphics. I looked in the Hardware Maintanance Manual here: HMM and looked at the part list here: System Service PartsBut now I can find a lot of replacement boards with a FRU number which is listed in neither list.

I.e.: 63Y1483Is there a more current FRU list? Most people don't use AMT or TPM so for most, these don't matter, but I believe (no guarantee) that 63Y1483 has both, so it would work in any T410 with intel graphics.

Go to Solution.

I need to replace the board of a T410.

x61 Tablet system board replacement

Are all the 7500 series boards interchangeable? Does anybody know of a better solution, or additional diagnosis I could do? How far from the original can I stray. This code equates to "System Board (Security Chip)".

It seems that the best solution for me would be to get a used motherboard and install it. It is a 7767 59U model. It is a few years old, no warranty.

Last week I opened the case, it woke up from sleep for about two seconds, then the blue screen of death appeared. Now when I try to start it, I get four series of four beeps. The system won't start up at all so the software diagnostics are not an option. What are the odds that another system board would fix it? Then, my next question would be what options do I have in replacing the mother board. There are 7xxx, 4xxx and 9xxx model numbers for the boards, what is the difference? I would really appreciate some help understanding this. The computer stays powered on and the fan runs until I unplug it and take out the battery.

There are many available on ebay, but not a 7767 59U. I did strip down the computer and look for loose components, but found none. I really like the x61, and do not want to spend the money for a new one. I'd love to upgrade it to a faster model.

Do the other components like the wifi card, modem, and HD card care what speed the mother board is? I understand only enough to be dangerous in this area.

e7450 system board replacement

It is out of warranty so I am looking at replacing the system board myself. The part number is CN-0Y15C1-12963-54I-  A0EF  REV A00.
I have an e7450 that has had what I believe to be a system board failure. I believe the original unit has an i5-5300U.

Most of the replacement boards I'm finding online have an i7-5600U.
Will there be an issue using the different processor if the board is still the same?

Locked out of bitlocker after system board replacement

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/d7be2e19-3eb2-4e7f-8d6a-c7f0f5474b93/bitlo...

My X1 died on me and, according to the sheet of paper that came back from the repair center, had its system board replaced. Unfortunately, when booting, I get a prompt for a bitlocker recovery key - and the key I have (confirmed with Microsoft) is not working. It would appear that, since the hard drive was not replaced, I should still be able to get in with my existing key, or am I missing something there?

The key id shown on the recovery screen is also different. I've spent about 40 minutes on the phone now with Lenovo support, and haven't gotten anywhere - how can I get back into my machine?

Dell XPS 16 (1645) system board replacement

Provide us with the service tag and email address.
Is it possible to get a replacement system board for a Dell XPS 16. Kindly run complete diagnostics on the system to check for errors.

I am UK based, and am happy to fit myself. My LCD screen is blank, and external monitor shows garbled images, so I am assuming the graphics chip is blown, and as it's integrated, I would need a new system board.

T61 type 7662 system board replacement- thanks Tuus

It took about 2 hours form start to finish. I looked at the lenovo repair training videos for a few wire routings and generally everything went well.   One item of note is our unit is a wide screen and it has 4 screws for the hinge.  The video does not show two of the four, but it was not a big deal to find the empty holes. The board booted and I set the requisite bios settings and we were off and running. M93p License Status "No DPK" after system board replacement

A technician just replaced the motherboard.

Bought an M93P online last month with Windows 8.1 Standard pre-installed. Now the BIOS shows "License Status: No DPK".

In the meantime, it will just show "No DPK" on the motherboard.  I'll go with that,, but if anyone has direct experience/knowledge on this, I'd like to hear it.

There is no COA sticker, but the BIOS System Summary showed "License Status:  SDKxxxxxxx STD" which I assume was my Windows 8.1 key. The on-board NIC failed. They said the DPK is on the Windows 8 media and will will be copied to the motherboard if I re-image from the Windows 8 media.
