A user in the forum details it further:

Could someone please help me out? Now, I am unable to hear anything. Computer: Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz, 448 MB of Ram System: Microsoft Office XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 Any help will be greatly appreciated. I realize that I have 2 re-install the sound driver but im not sure how to do that.

If it is a homebuilt or custom computer then we'll need to know what motherboard you have.   If so you'll just need to google that model and sound driver and then find the XP driver from their site. Thank You!   Is it a branded computer like Dell, HP, ect?

Common causes are incorrect or unsuccessful installation or removal of software that could leave invalid entries in the Windows registry, the effects of a virus or malware attack, an incorrect system shutdown due to a power failure, or another factor in which a person with little technical knowledge accidentally deletes the required A system file or registry entry, as well as several other reasons. The immediate cause of "No audio after formatting" is a failure when one of its normal operations is properly started by a system or application component.

Formatting for audio

The risks would be that some apps (NTFS Compression etc) may not like it. Does FAT32 give you the option of a 32K allocation size or am doing something wrong and should be able to do it with NTFS?

NTFS will support 32, but your OS may not give you the option. If you format with a 3rd party application (Partition Magic?) you may be able to do it.

Hey i have some software that says I should use a freshly formatted drive to record audio to that is written with either NTFS of FAT32.

It's "theoretically" slightly better (faster access) with 32 due to the large audio file sizes, but in practice you may not notice it. also tells me to set the byte allocation size to 32K, because this is the best for writing audio apparently. The problem is that when i try to set up a format with NTFS I dont get the option of 32K as an allocation size?

No audio after formatting my 82535BS

I don't know if its important but the chip said Realtek RTL 8100C on it. I really want to get this computers audio to work! i was gunna go bak to him and get him to install a real one but i was busy with work so i had my computer in the basement for sometime. after i found it a few weeks ago i bought a real copy of windows xp and formatted the computer.

So after i bought this computer sometime in september 2008, i figured out the guy put a fake copy of windows on it. I downloaded the sound drive (Realtek AC'97 Audio) from a software called uniblue driver updated and from the lenovo site. I opened the computer and looked for the sound card and figured out that it was an onboard sound card on the mother board.

BTW this is what i downloaded from the lenovo site: Im running on Windows XP SP3

USB drive formatting back to FAT32 after formatting to NTFS

Last night, I tried to transfer a video file as I've done dozens of times. I tried a second time and realized it was because the file was more than 4GB which FAT32 USB drives will not accept. I will only be using this USB stick on my Windows laptops, dvd player and not on my iMac.

I have swapped between file system types many times and never had an issue. Can I do this using the same method (right-click drive checked off and optimized performance then right-click and select NTFS) I did from FAT32 to NTFS or is something else required? My question is can I convert it back to FAT32? It didn't work.

I successfully formatted the new USB drive to NTFS. Regards,

Is it dangerous to due this?

Qosmio G20: Sonic reports formatting failed when formatting CD-RW

It?s very easy to use and it supports more functions as the preinstalled Sonic software! You should investigate a lilt bit. Greetings!

Try to use different CD brands, remove the Sonic from your notebook and use the Nero. This is a great burning application! Is this the software of Sonic or is this because the media type needs to be chanted?

I am trying to format a Verbatim CD-rw and cannot format or burn any data, pictures to the cd.

At present I want to burn cds with my pictures, so would appreciate any input.

Formatting vs Low Level Formatting (Zero Fill)

Hope that helps some, if in doubt, google it
Bare in mind that this is only my opinion and is in referance to my own knowledge and as such is not gospel. I am currently not a PC tech but am studying CompTIA A+ Certification. Usually the only time low level formatting is used is at the manufacturer when the hard drive is prepared for sale.

I want to start a clean state, but if going with a low-level format will not be significantly different to a high-level format (apart from preventing data from being recovered) then I would rather carry out a high -level format (which is a lot faster). I want to start a clean state, but if going with a low-level format will not be significantly different to a high-level format (apart from preventing data from being recovered) then I would rather carry out a high -level format (which is a lot faster). Though generally as a rule low level formatting need never be done by anybody except the manufacturer.

I will be formatting my 110gb hardrive and have to decide what type of format to conduct.

Except for data recovery prevention does low-level formatting reap any other sort of benefits performance-wise or in terms of how much space is left on your hard drive? However, it is also sometimes used on older drives to correct read/write errors. Quote:

Formatting external drive after dvr formatting

I do not want to save anything on the drive--just format it and use it for a different purpose. I no longer have the Dish DVR.

I recorded some saved programs on my Dish Network DVR 622 to an external hard drive that formatted it for that purpose according to their instructions.

Can the external hard drive now be reused by being hooked up to my standalone computer and reformatted or have I lost it because of that use? If so, how do I do it? When I connect the external drive to my desktop I do not even see an icon for it in My Computer.

Solved: Conditional Formatting: Ignore Blank Cells in Conditional formatting

Accidents. That part I am fine with
it counts blank cells as 0
so I want it to be able to ignore these blank cells and leave them as white and not be affected by the conditional formatting colours
Please Help! Cheers

okay so I'm creating a new spreadsheet for work and have to format the cells in column C labelled No. if the number of accidents is less than 5 i want it to be green and if its equal to 5 I want it to be yellow and more than 5 i want to be red.

Formatting and quick formatting

Thirty minutes or more is not particularly unusual for a full format.
I have just had to format my hard drive and everthing is working fine but when I tried the normal format it stopped at 10% and stayed there for 30 mins from this I restarted and the computer started as though I had'nt formatted so I tried the quick format and it formatted in a few seconds and went on to install windows as normal The question is, is this normal The drive is a 200GB sata drive partitioned into two sections

The full format does a surface scan on the drive as it formats so does take considerably longer to complete.

If the scan stopped at 10% then this could indicate that the scan had found a problem with the drive.

Dell XPS 13 audio static even when not playing audio or audio/video!

tax evade and push governments to sign evil "free trade" agreements giving them more power, at our expense. Capitalists are freaking monsters. Cost cutting?

I paid over a grand for my Dell. What's wrong with this picture?

This is inexcusable! Does Dell care that I don't even make a living wage?

And you won't get me to change my mind about that no matter how many hospitals in Yemen you bomb or how much you rant about non existent Russian aggression. I think neoliberal capitalism, and gangster Corporatocracy and mafia capitalism are all things we can't afford, ergo... I don't even earn a living wage while corporations cost cut, job cut.

Equal Left & Right Speaker Balance Causes T61 Audio Volume To Go To Zero on Front Audio Jack.

Equal Left & Right Speaker Balance Causes T61 Audio Volume To Go To Zero on Front Audio Jack. -- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD AudioWhen the left and right sound channels on the T61 sound card are set to be equal, no sound comes out of the front speaker jack for IE8 or Windows Media Player. Shifting the L and R off equal (e.g. Left 20 and Right 30) the sound comes back on. Moving them back toward equal setting slowly decreases the speaker volume until it is gone. I reloaded and reinstalled the SoundMAX driver, but no change. I really didn't notice this until we started with iTunes which definitely notices L and R levels on playback.  Setting L = R and, whoops, no sound at all. And, this doesn't happen to the onboard T61 speakers.  They work as you would expect the L & R to work. I am setting speaker balance from Control Panel -> Sound  -> Speakers -> Levels -> Balance This is really bizarre. BTW, 64-bit Vista Any suggestions?   I'd like equal L & R balance AND volume from the front jack. Message Edited by rmyork on 08-14-2009 09:51 AM

Gigabyte P57Xv6 - Realtek HD Audio Manager Doesn't Switch Between Audio Devices

except my audio interface is ASUS, not MSI, and does not allow for front panel detection. (their solution was to "disable front panel jack detection" but this interface does not allow for this)

See the attached screenshots for interface.

My audio rear outs used to work, but even so, i was primarily using hdmi out from my video card. Everything seems like in this thread Just got done building a new computer but... - techPowerUp! Have you tried system restore, or tried reinstalling the software/driver etc?

Problem is, now i find that the onboard audio does not work. Screenshot #5: While under AC97, it shows that it detects both front ports, a set of speakers in one and a mic in the other, even when there is nothing plugged in. Also note that the bottom jacks are disabled, and does not see the speakers at all, even though they are plugged in. Due to a new living circumstance, I decided to switch back to the normal audio out, as my hdmi sound is awful on my new monitor.

The back panel still is undetected. Screenshot #3: As you can see, there are no devices shown while HD audio is enabled, and the sound device manager does not see the speakers at all. Sound is enabled in BIOS, I have tried volume checks, tried nearly everything i can come up with, and I am nearly at my wit's end.
