RAM Color Slot Question is the name of the error that contains information about the error, including the reason why it occurred, which system component or application was malfunctioning that caused the error, and other information. The numerical code in the name of the error contains data that can be decoded by the manufacturer of the faulty component or application. An error using this code can occur in many different places in the system. Although the name contains some details, it is still difficult for the user to find and eliminate the cause of the error without specialized technical knowledge or the appropriate software.

From the Forums

A user in the forum details it further:

I would like to know for future MB upgrades   oh ok i looked a little and found out the multiple colors on my mb are for dual channel support, my question is then changed to "how can you tell what type of ram your mb uses"? I would do the obvious and look inside the comp but there unlabeled   Black = DDR2?

I know that different types of ram (DDR1, DDR2,... such as (from what i think I know ) Baige or Black = DDR1? I would like to know what blue is speciffically becuase that what my MB uses. ( ) = DDR4? ( ) = DDR5? Blue = DDR3??

etc) Have different color slots to tell the difference between them, my question is what color corresponds to which..?

Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that?

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered?

Computer Specs -

Asus M5A99x-Evo Motherboard (AM3+)
AMD FX 8350 8 Core (4Ghz)
Sapphire AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (2GB)
8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX memory (2x 4GB)
500GB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
1TB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
Sound Blaster XF-I Titanium PCI-E 1x Sound Card
Thremaltake 750 80+ Bronze PS (Smart Series)
DVDRW (SATA)
DVD-ROM (SATA)

My opinion ... Its it recommended? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality.

Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below...

Color coded memory slot help.

Someone got me two sticks of 512 to fill out my system, I installed them but only recognized 1g of ram. The manufacturer's website has an online tech support page that is under construction. I checked the manufacturer's site to find
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=k8n_neo4_platinum
a nice diagram about dual and single channel memory that makes no sense to me.

Alrighty, I'm running an MSI K8N Neo4.

All three sticks are kingston value ram, they are pc3200, all three work (as I discovered after some musical chairs with memory). I believe all the sticks are dual channel, they have memory modules on both sides of the ram (if that is how you tell, I'm not sure). I've had it for a while, so far I've just been running a 512 stick in the first, green slot.

Anything would be greatly appreciated at this point. I just downloaded the manual but I was hoping for some easy insight. Can anyone help me out with the diagram or point me in the direction of something more helpful? I'm currently running the two new sticks, recognizing 1g of memory, while I have my original stick in a box.

RichTextBox Color Question---(easy question)

At the tag, it sets three Private RGB integers to the color specified, then, deletes the tag from the incoming string, and continues normally, applying the color formatting to the characters, and adding them to a RichTextBox. Shouldn't be too hard for all of you.... When data is recieved, I have a sub break it down, chatacter-by-character until it comes to a formatting tag.

Here's the question. Yet, the color is not displayed. I may be wrong though.

Out of all the questions to ask, this one took up the most space on my whiteboard, so here goes.

PS---I am programming in Visual Basic 6.0

I'm not sure you can colorize an RTB without subclassing it and using the WinApi functions. When I apply the color formatting, it does not appear in the RichTextBox. Sounds simple? I am developing my own TELNET application.

Why is this? Here is the code I use:

Text1.SelColor = GetColor
Text1.Text = Text1.Text + temp
Text1.SelStart = Len(Text1.Text)
Text = Right$(Text, Len(Text) - 1)

Text1 is the RTB, temp is the character picked up, Text is the incoming string, GetColor is the RGB() of the three variables mentioned earlier.

AGP Slot Question

If I purchase an 8x, like the Radeon, will it work okay in the 2x/4x AGP slot? A couple of friends have brown AGP slots on their motherboards. I would like to upgrade my video card to an ATI Radeon 9800 256mb so that my son can play COD2 and BF2.

Purchased in 2003. Do I have AGP?

2. Before I take the plunge, I have a few quick questions.

1. Golferguy

How do I tell what kind of AGP slot I have (2x/4x/8x).

3.

Good day all! There is a slot slightly offset from the modem and video card slots. It appears to be an AGP slot but is green.

I have a Dell 8250, P4, 2.6ghz, 768mb RDRAM and 64mb PCI video.

Slot 1 CPU Question

Would the bios not recognize it and windows does? Here would be my suggestion:

MSI motherboard ($62):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130068

Athlon 64 3000+ ($65):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103639

512Mb of DDR2 memory ($35):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220171

New case with power supply ($26):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811145046

Total: $188

I know it's not quite the question you asked, but this would be a much better solution to any upgrade you might be trying to do with that system.

or neither the mobo or bios will be able to recognize it?

I can't find much info for the HOT-637p CPU support list, but IMO, you would be better off saving your money than spending it on a faster P2 processor.

Most of the links are saying that the 440 LX chipset doesn't support P3 processors, only a P2 333Mhz. http://www.google.com/search?q=shuttle+hot-637p+cpu&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&start=10&sa=N

If I were you, I'd save up $200 and just buy a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Whether that is true or not, I don't know.

I have a Shuttle Hot-637P and it uses a slot 1 processor i supports SEPP and SECC and im not sure about SECC2 (Mainly PIII) If my mobo doesn't support SECC2 and i use an SECC2 Processor what would happen?

You...

Question on ATI Slot

I have a compaq p4 1519 And was wondering if I am able to get ATI radeon video card into my comuter and be able to work before I buy it so if you can please tell me if this is at all possible or if i need to buy something else to put in my computer before the video card to be able to work.

1519 what? Compaq Presario SR1519ES, SR1519IT, SR1519UK or SR1519X?

PCI slot question

I am using a USB external modem and as you can see, I am connected. I haven't tried using a differnet slot yet because I wanted to see if one PCI slot can fail and the others work. You could have a electrical issue with the slot, it could also be dust build upl.

I then put a different modem in and it worked sometimes while sometimes it didn't.

Quick question, can a single PCI slot fail and the rest work? You may also want to check the modems in a differnt PC as well in the rare cause you had two bad ones.

Is it a coincidence that I had two bad modems back to back or is the PCI slot bad?

I have a modem that started acting up and I pulled it out and put it back in and reinstalled it and it worked for two seconds and quit working.

Bad Ram Slot Question

And make sure you buy from someone who lets you return it for a full refund even after you've opened and installed the part!

Ordered the ram and now after a series of deductions I have determined that one of the ram slots is bad. With the majority of computers out there, the max amount of memory you can install is determined by how much you can put in each slot.

That said, you have nothing to lose by buying a 4GB and trying it out. The 2GB you bought works, so you obviously know what specifications you need. I did a lot of swapping and switching and its the slot. Can I buy a 4gb stick and just place that in the one working slot?

Just get the exact same thing, but in 4GB.

I have an Emachine EL1352-01e with 2gb of memory and wanted to add another 2gb which would max it out. They should make something where you can plug in or piggy back.

Most likely not. If you had four slots it would be 8GB.

Your max is 2GB per slot, and since you have two slots, that means your total computer max is 4GB. I know it is not the additional memory stick because I switched it into the other slot and it worked perfectly.

AGP Pro slot use or not, that is the question?

I Bought a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 Mb graphics card form Lowest on the Web (I have e-mail for support so far none! What a surprise), I read the manual, and uninstalled the drivers from the old graphics card (a Gforce 2 64 MB) I Installed the new card as the booklet said, the Radeon 9800 Pro was picked up when Windows XP Pro booted up, I installed the drivers.

PCI-E slot question

will it go in the larger PCI Express 16x slot (My motherboard only has 1 PCI Express 16x slot and 2 Graphic card slots) Google says a PCI Express 1x card will go in a larger slot but not vice versa for obvious reasons... http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/M5A99X_EVO/

Question about the AGP slot

AGAIN: I AM DOING THIS FOR MY FRIEND,THIS ISN'T MY PC!

The problem is you have two standards. as will the AGP manufacturers if you dig deeply enough.

Most of the better online sites will tell you what the AGP cards they sell will require...

My friend has the intel i845-ITE8715 and that motherboard has 6 PCI,and one AGP x4 slot.Currently he has the geforce 2 mx 400 64 mb(second gen T&L,no pixel shader support..)and wants to know, because he hasn't got an internet connection at home,he asked me to do him a favor: To ask you if he can put the GeForce fx5500 From PALiT on his AGP x4.I think that he can put it,because on many reviews i have seen the AGP 8x/4x support for the specs of the card. His agp is 2.0(because you know-agp 8x is agp 3.0).Now,i have seen that the card supports agp 2.0 and 3.0 .Does this mean he can put it?Or if you can recommend a card that can be put on the agp x4 but with the 250 Watt PSU,some better than the gf FX5500,just for playin' farcry on med-high, nfs: most wanted and carbon, GTA san Andreas...? One for the power supply, which limits what can be used. And another for the AGP slot
He will have problems with the 8X in some 4X slots, but I do not know that board.

Another Ram question, does it matter which DIM slot

Check the motherboard manual and see if it lists configuration options for memory

Generally I try to put the biggest chip in the first dimm slot

does it mater or make a difference?

most newer motherboards will allow you to install them in any slot. Some older motherboards wanted them installed in certain configurations.

If you have for example a 128 ram and a 64 ram chip which one goes in DIM1 or DIM 2 slot?

question on expansion slot on Mb

i want to put a ssd here if is possible.

Motherboard AGP Slot Question

I took an old AGP card from an old comp and inserted it in the AGP slot on the emachine. Heres some info i got. I turned the machine back on and i got a black screen right after the initial emachine logo appeared on the screen...i dont know whats wrong and i really want some better graphics.

Express Slot question

However, concerning the hub, you should make sure that the usb hub should be a powered hub in order to make the ipod (for example) charge while connected.

But, regarding your external hard drive, normally, it won't work without the AC Adapter, you should have mentioned what kind of external hdd ( 2.5' or 3.5" ).

So I damaged 2 of the 3 USB 2.0 ports on my laptop (very stupid i know )

My laptop supports ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54, so I plan to buy one with extra uSB 2.0 ports.

From what I've been told its no, but if thats the case, it will still do a sync, correct? However, before I get my expectations up, I wanted to ask two questions (which may end up being one)

Will the card be able to charge an iPod when plugged in? The other question is: If I have an external hard drive that runs off of an AC adapter, will it work in the card slot as well?

Question regarding PCIe Slot

Would it be worth it to upgrade my mother board? However the PCIe X16 slot on my Foxconn motherboard says in the manual that is is a PCIe X16 (signal x1)...this concerns me. I am also running 3gb ddr2 667 if it makes a difference.

Am I getting the full potential out of my vid card? Or is my PCIe slot restricting some of it's potential due to the signal x1 thing as I'm not sure what that means. I currently am running a Asus EN8800GT and have been for some time.

Expansion Slot question

Are you referring to the ExpressCard 34 slot?

Simple PCI slot question

If all the stuff is current manufacture there won't be a problemHowever as the specs for motherboards and cards has developed if you buy something old either motherboard or card ther could be a problemCheck the technical spec for each item before purchase or google to get the full technical spec for PCI and the dates when upgrades happenedIf you really want the low down in hard copy, beg, buy, borrow (or go to the library) for Scott Mueller's "Upgrading and repairing PCs" which will tell you all about PCI slots and specsThere's a web site as well
