From the Forums
A user in the forum details it further:
Some brands, such as SanDisk and no-name units are particularly susceptible. There are so many causes. Failure could result from something as simple as pulling out a flash drive too early while it is still recording or downloading files, or it could be damage to the hardware around the USB plug. Rescue is rare, so if the data is critical, get the help of an expert...
Rescue of USB flash drive files is not for the weak of heart. I;ve tried to use it with another computer but its the same. While other brands will rescue the data if you mail them the drive.
Most repairs require the destruction of existing data on the flash drive. My USB won't open. Some companies specialize in rescue of the data, but they usually remove the memory element, which means they destroy the drive in order to save the data. My laptop doesn't read it.
You might want to do a gurgle search for help. I can't get my files. So do not do anything more until you do some research. What should I do? This is an entire area of specilization.

DV problem with Sony Vaio
I never got this wizard and when I go to upload my film onto the computer using DV gate, it says that the i.link (Sony?s brand name for dv) is offline. It?s not but it?s as if the computer doesn?t know that the camcorder is connected. Is there anyway of making it go from Offline to Online and making the two things ?talk? to each other. If not, is there anything else I can do/get in order to upload my film on to my laptop for editing. All advice and help welcome and appreciated.Richard I was advised elsewhere:"If you open Device Manager (Start > Run type devmgmt.msc > OK) on the Sony what does it show against the DV port (Windows might call it Firewire or IEEE 1394)? Or is it even listed? If it is listed but the icon has a yellow ! Is there something wrong and can it be fixed? If not, can I get something to work around the problem?
HelloI?ve an issue trying to load up a home video from my Camcorder onto my Sony Vaio laptop.I?ve got the dv cable and have connected it all properly. as descibed above. The second: Sony CDX3222 OHCI i.LINK (IEEE 1394) PCI Host Controller doesn't have anything. What does this mean? If it isn't listed then it may be disabled in the BIOS."I've done as suggested and I have 2 controllers listed in a drop down menuThe first: OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller has the yellow !
over it then there is a problem, which would explain why the camera isn't recognised. Apparently, I was supposed to get a ?wizard? telling me that ...

Do not post the problem more than once. but this afternoon i was using my Sony Vaio laptop for about 30 mins or and i left it on for about 10 or 15 more mins and when i came back it was off. First thing i thought was that the battery had died, but that idea was cancelled when i saw that the wall adaptor was plugged in also.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!! But the computer will not show any signs of life what so ever other than the green light on the wall adaptor. The light on the wall adaptor comes on and is green.
SONY Vaio MBR problem
I understand that WINxpSp2 hates the HD shuffle from machine to machine, but that is certianly not the issue here. James
THe bios is updated and the bios always posts the HD as
65535MB or C/H/S 22272; 15; 63 (10776MB)
I enter C/H/S as; 16383; 16; 63 (8455MB)
ONE IMPORTANT FACT: I do not have the CDROM for this machine. I do notice when I use the windows MMC snap on for hard drive management that it puts the LBA equivelants in brackets as a note for me.) Still the note book refuses to see the drive or any partitions I've added.
The time I've soent certianly outways just buying another drive. It partitions and runds absolutely fine (of course) n my desktop PC with an adaptor and then POOF!, nothing when it goes back into the notebook. Can anyone please boil this down for me? I have the floppy though.
Toshiba took the drive back at the drive service center and sent it back cleared for take off saying there was nothing wrong. But it seems a senseless waste to do that. IBM Travelstar 6.49 GB died on the previous owner. I'm nuts over it and about to send the HD for a swim in the ocean here in South Miami Beach.
I've tried Partition magic8, BootBG, MBRtool, another words, I have about 45 disks piled infront of me and nothing seems to get this to boot into anything or save a proper MBR. The original drive.

Sony Vaio Recovery Problem
EVEN ONCE.... SONY VAIO CR-36G_B
WINOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM NO SERVICE PACK AND NOT UPDATED. Vista works fine all drivers are installed but the only problem is that I dont have some of the original softwares. I again restored the system using F10 key but to same result. It hung at 96% once again.
you may be able to go to sonys website and do a search for your specific computer and find what you need.
Can I restore it again? what were the issues that caused you to do the restore in the first place? is there any way to access the hidden recovery partition so that I can have those softwares back.
what original software?
I recently restored my vaio to factory settings using vaio recovery settings but I still had some issues with the computer so I decided to restore again. The first stage including restoring vista and starting it for the first time went fine. However this time the second stage involving installation of factory softwares hung at 96%.I waited for over 4 hrs but in vain. So I used task manager to exit this stage and windows started normally but few factory softwares were missing mainly vaio recovery center.

Sony Vaio PCV-RS430G USB 2.0 Problem
My backup is located on an external SATA plugged into one of my USB ports. I'm using a USB midi controller... and there is almost a second of lag between when I hit a key and the computer produces noise! I need USB 2.0 back!
Please help! My backup is 70+ GB and I can't wait a whole day for this thing to copy. This is so frustrating and I can't find any information anywhere about this problem. I have updated Windows XP Home as far as it will go, but all my USB ports are still acting like 1.0.
I downloaded the latest chipset driver from Sony, as that was the only driver that seemed like it might have something to do with USB. Sony tells me I have 7 USB 2.0 ports.
I used the recovery partition on my Sony Vaio PCV-RS430G to completely reload my system today.
Sony Vaio Monitor problem
My Sony Vaio laptop monitor has suddenly starting jumping erratically up and down. Anyone got any suggestions?
Problem Upgrading Ram for Sony Vaio
The default ram specs that are installed in it is show in this picture http://i.imgur.com/srFmy.png. You need 2 1GB sticks and you can not use your old RAM with it because the maximum RAM you can install is 2GB total.
A 2GB stick will not work. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
I tried putting one RAM at a time in all four different slots and still did not boot up, just the fan and the light of the motherboard turned on. Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules. I did more research and it should work, also I went by this website http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20VGC-RB40%20Series&Cat=RAM to guide me in what kind of RAM I needed. The three sentences above are directly from Crucial's site for VGC RB40 model.
Hey guys I bought a G.SKILL Value 2GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) from newegg to upgrade a Sony Vaio VGC RB40. When I went and installed the new RAM, and then turned on the computer I did not get any video out neither did it boot up at all. I put back in the old RAM to see if it was the slots that were bad or something else, and the computer worked fine. I updated the BIOS on the computer and nothing happened.
Maximum memory 2GB.
2. Did you buy a 2 GB stick or two 1GB sticks? Thank you.
1. I guess this means that both RAMs are not compatible to work with...
Sony Vaio WINXP Problem

Sony Vaio DVD Drive problem
Any ideas ?
If i put a disk in the light on the drive flashes yellow briefly. I know it worked before the upgrade as it loaded vista from a disc and now it won't read that same disc.
If i open explorer and click on the DVD drive it opens the drawer and asks for a disk to be inserted. I have loaded all the drivers and it says the drive is working normally, however it does not read any disc inserted.
I have a sony vaio PCG-K415B which was running well, right up to the point i upgraded it from windows xp to vista.
In Sony vaio HDD protection problem?
If you're not being given the option to enable, you will likely find it in scheduled tasks.
From what I can gather, it detects sudden movements such as if the machine was dropped or impacted in some other way and it automatically parks the drive head to minimise the risk of damage to the disk. Any body please tell me how to solve this problem?
Sony Vaio overheating problem
Does anyone have another solution? He told me that the laptop has an overheating problem and that the chip gets detached from the motherboard due to the overheating, he told me that I need a new motherboard, and to be honest I can't aford to get it because nobody sells it here in venezuela and I don't have dollars to buy it on Ebay... Is there another way of fixing it so the laptop would at least last for some years?
A friend of mine gave me a Sony Vaio laptop, the model is "vgn ar590fg" like this one
I had to get it repared because it had one of the hinges was broken, suposedly that was causing a video issue, because the screen would only show color lines... I really like the laptop and I can work in my designs perfectly with it, besids I can play my games there... I recovered the laptop after a year and obviously got my money back from those scammers, gave it to a good technician who told me that the video chip had gotten loose, so he reattached it again and the computer worked fine for about two weeks, the chip got detached again, he fixed it again, and after two weeks it got detached... Have a nice Day
