How To Fix Unable to download updates..error code 2147024894

A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Having a sign that tells us of issues that we need to solve in life for us to move forward is a great idea. While it does not always work in life, it does in computers. Messages that indicate the issues your computer encounters are called error codes. They appear whenever there is a problem such as incorrect data input or faulty hardware. Computer programmers add predefined error codes and messages in their system codes so whenever there is an issue, it prompts the users. While error codes may be predefined, there are different sets of error codes with different meanings for other kinds of computer programs.

A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.

Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.

Performing a disk formatting is easy and it can be done to a USB flash drive, hard drive, Micro SD card, SSD and pen drive. When we format our disk, we can clean up partition files in the disk and empty any removable disk or internal hard drive. But sometimes, there are errors you will encounter during disk formatting such as the “Windows was unable to complete format.” This problem may happen due to one of the following factors:

  • The drive is physically damaged
  • The drive is empty
  • The drive is write protected
  • The drive has virus infection
  • The drive has bad sectors

What causes Unable to download updates..error code 2147024894

It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.

Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

  1. Clear up your Temporary Files and Internet Cache and reboot.
  2. Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.
  3. Use the Microsoft’s Windows Update Troubleshooter to reset Windows Updates settings to defaults.
  4. Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
  5. Reset the Catroot folder.
  6. Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

When you encounter a Windows Unable to error during disk formatting, do not assume that your disk or internal drive is faulty. There are still several ways you can fix the problem. Once you have tried all the solutions and nothing works, you can conclude that your drive or disk is permanently damaged.

One solution is to us a Windows Disk Management Tool found in Windows My Computer. Select the indicated drive and hit Format. Delete any partitions in the drive prior to formatting.

Another is to identify if your drive as partition or a RAW File System. If there is no partition, you need to recreate partitions. However, when your drive has a RAW File System, you need to do either of the 3 options: use Disk Management to Format, use Command Line to Format or use Partition Wizard to Format. RAW drive is a partition that has not be formatted and may cause the errors. You can fix the RAW drive using one of the 3 formatting options.

Windows unable to check/download updates - error code: 80070005

Searching in the Microsoft Knowledge Base takes only few minutes and so I have founded this article:

It?s not the same error code as you have but to solve the problem you should disable the antivirus program and maybe also the firewall. Windows help website said it would be a problem with my computer as it came with Vista home basic already installed on it. Check this!

When I click "try again" on the window update page, I just get the same error again and again. Bye

Any help would be greatly appreicated!

Windows 7 Updates: Unable to Download code: 80246008

Any help you can give me would greatly be appreciated.

For almost a year I haven't been able to download a single update for Windows 7 (Have around 75 pending important updates to download). Sometime ago, I recall stumbling across a backdoor virus on my PC. I had to go into safe mode to remove the virus.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

When I went to update, it was unable to even gain access online (my internet connection was fine). The Updater was able to find out that I had 75 pending updates, though when it went to actually download them, it was unable to and gave me an error code, 80246008. I was able to correct it, though Windows Update has remained the same.

A few days later I had pending operating system updates. But nothing this frustrating or difficult to figure out. I have seen another post from a user here that had a similar problem, but I'm not sure him and I have the exact issue. (Windows 7 cannot check for updates & error 0x80070002)

I've had problems with Windows XP, 7 before. I have attempted to clean-boot up Windows, in hopes that it had been Malware Bytes that was blocking the updates all along.

Microsoft Security Essentials also, was compromised and unable to update itself. It prevented me from accessing any of my programs, including the internet.

Error Code 80246008 when trying to download MS Updates

I ran the System Update Readiness tool, with the following results:

Checking System Update Readiness. In the General tab, click Start.

Both COM+ Event System and RPC are started (automatic), but BITS is not (Automatic/Delayed). If the registry subkey does not exist, create the registry subkey.

Quit Registry Editor.

5. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2. Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

Running Win7x64 SP1 machine (last MS updates done in June); I ran Windows update, selected the patches to install (I usually do it incrementally: Windows, IE, Office, then any .Net) and clicked install.

Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start sytem services.

Failure to download updates & Error Code 80073712.

These last two (KB3088195 & KB3097966) will not download. When I installed them, only 6 were installed. Two of them, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3088195) and Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3097966), will not install. Windows does not keep trying on its own to download them though, neither at shut down nor does it remind me that I have these 2 updates available to download.

My issue is that last night I received 8 important updates though Windows Update to install (Windows Update is set to download updates but let me choose when to install them). Help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
Download and run the Windows Update Readiness Tool.
Let us know how it goes.

I have repeatedly tried to dl and install them through Windows Update and both of them fail, with "Error code 80073712".
When this batch of 8 updates showed up last night, I downloaded all of them and Windows Update only showed it was downloading 6 of them. They just sit in Windows Update as  "2 important updates are available".
I have tried to figure this out for a few hours, but I am not the most computer savvy person.

However, they sit in Windows Update as "2 important updates are available".

Unable to download updates automatically/manually, download hangs

I cannot install the SURT because it also keeps searching for updates. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem are appreciated.

I'm trying to download updates through Windows Update, it shows that I have 139 important updates, and 40 optional ones.

I tried the check for updates option but it also keeps checking forever. I cancelled and retried choosing only 24 important updates and the same happened. I need to update so I can upgrade to Windows 10 - the setup also got stuck while checking for updates, so I was hoping that updating beforehand would do the trick. I selected them and clicked the install button but it got stuck at "Downloading updates (0 kb total, 0% complete)".

I also tried downloading updates from Microsoft Download Center but when I try to install them it hangs on "searching for updates on this computer". I already ran the Microsoft Fix It tool, disabled my anti-virus and firewall, but nothing works.

Windows Updates will not install. Error code 800F0900 for all updates.

This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. I would try running the System Update Readiness Tool: .

As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool.

I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. This failed to solve the problem. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from
