How To Fix Update to new DMI? Hard Drive S.m.a.r.t. utility disabled?

TIP: You should click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system speed.

A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.

Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.

From the Forums

A user in the forum details it further:

I dont know if its anything to be concerned about. You enable it in the bios under the hard drive detecting area. It can sense a pending problem with a hard drive. I am also getting to error messages right when windows comes up saying nvpll.exe or something like that is not there or something, I believe this file has to do with my video card drive wich is also up to date.

SMART is a utility that reads the SMART data from your hard drives. DMI is short for Desktop Management Interface, an API (Application Program Interface) to enable software to collect information about a computer environment. For example, using DMI a program can determine what software and expansion boards are installed on a computer... Oh yeah they messed up at ups and so I am using my bros old case, but hey it worls .

Again it runs seemingly fine, not a big problem but id like to know whats going on.   Your bios might need to be tweeked a bit. Its been displaying that message since It first booted, I have all the latest updates and I used uniblue driver scanner to make sure I have all the latest drives. You might try reseting the bios to optimal settings

I got my new rig and its running fine but at start up I have a black screen with those messages for like 5 seconds, Im not sure what they mean I did a little googling, the first one has to do with amd in a gigabyte mobo.

What causes Update to new DMI? Hard Drive S.m.a.r.t. utility disabled?

It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.

Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

  1. Clear up your Temporary Files and Internet Cache and reboot.
  2. Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.
  3. Use the Microsoft’s Windows Update Troubleshooter to reset Windows Updates settings to defaults.
  4. Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
  5. Reset the Catroot folder.
  6. Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

Hard drive firmware update utility without CD

I checked various tools to "burn" ISO to flash disk, but none of the tools see anything reasonable on this ISO.

I see there is an update available - Hard drive firmware update utility (Bootable CD ISO) - The catch 22 is that X61 Tablet does not have CD ROM drive, so the ISO is useless to me. Any suggestions how to install this firmware? P.S.

Hard drive firmware update utility (Bootable CD ISO)

takes only a few minsthe resultant disc does appear to have NO files on it (they are hidden)leave the CD in the drive and restart the machine (press F12 as the thinkpad is starting up to acess the boot menu, and select the internal cd/dvd drive as the boot device).the hard drive firmware update utility should launch and scan your system for any drives that need updating.  my system didn't need an update, the drive firmware was already up-to-date.

i used CD Burner XP (also compatible with Vista)download the ISO from Lenovorun CD Burner XP and select Burn ISO Imagechange the Burn Method to Disc at Once (DAO)and verify that Finalize disc box is checkedclick Burn disk button... Go to Solution.

It looks like something went wrong providing this update option as introduced above.

Hard drive lock or disabled, can not access hard drive

Sounds like the disk may be encrypted.

You could try to wipe the drive by doing a zero out with dd on a bootable linux disc and see if that fixes the problem. My question is, if the hard drives are lock how can we unlock them or make them usable.

I belong to a non profit organization and we receive a few hundred hard drives IDE and SATA.

When using a Windows xp system disk to load the OS and when we get to the deleting partion part it reads "cannot access the hard drive. We suspect the I.T. guys ran some sort of software to either disable, lock or maybe damage them.

These can from different a county departments, they show up in the bios with the hard drives information.

Hard Drive Utility App

Looks like what you're looking for
. SlimCleaner from Slimware Utilities has a disk analyzer as part of their disk utilities and shows you each file and how much space it takes. Can anyone point me in the direction of a utility app which gives you a break down of how much space is on your drive and which apps/folders are hogging the most space?

IBM hard drive utility

I have a 20 gig IBM Deskstar hard drive that according to Windows ME, it might have physical damage. If there is something like that on the IBM site, can somebody tell me where it is?

Try this, a Deskstar is listed as a Hitachi drive.

Can anybody tell me where I can find a hard drive utility for IBM Deskstar hard drives. I can't seem to find it on the IBM website.

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#Diskmanager

download and create a Drive Fitness Test disc. I am looking for something like Western Digital has for their hard drives where you use a boot floppy and run diagnostics to see what is wrong.

Hard Drive Utility

I already have WD Drive Uttilities but it is useless for my internal drive which is a Seagate. (I have a WD Passport too) I am thinking about HDTune. It is a paid program but sometimes there are offers or give-aways.

What is the best hard drive diagnostics software? It has to be one that does not interfere with antivirus.

I use HD Sentinal. The reason I want one is because I want to continuously diagnose my 5 year old hard drive. The author responds to questions. Website Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring

I am not getting CrystalDiskMark because it has the OpenCandy virus.

Looking for a hard drive utility.....

If anyone knows of a stand-alone app that will do this, that would be ideal. so, i guess if you had no data, it might work? I could then just put it on ye olde USB flash drive and run it at will w/o having to install it.... can you run it in windows?

I'm looking for a hard drive util that runs from within Windows, and will perform a low level wipe (also known as 'zero-ing' a drive) to a slaved or external USB hard drive. I looked through the driver cleaners section here at MG (I skimmed real quick and may have missed something) and didn't find anything. I know there's plenty of bootable ones, and I do use those from time to time, but there are times when I don't have the time to shut down, unplug, open the case, install a drive (maybe with an adapter if it's a laptop drive), plug in, power up, boot to a bootable CD/floppy, etc....

what about ubcd, or do you have to boot from it?

looking for a hard drive testing utility

I have 3 Maxtor 15GB IDE drives and 1 WD 20GB Ide drive and I was wondering if there is any hard drive testing website that will give these drives a test so I can determine if they are any good - I guess I could do each with OEM testing - but I would like to find an "all in one solution"

Toshiba hard drive utility

QuoteI have no Recovery CDs and really don't feel like paying HP $87 for them. You could get a new copy for that!QuoteI've been racking my brain trying to find a free Toshiba Hard Drive Utility CD image in order to do some diagnostics.Any recommendations?Have you tried the Ultimate Boot CD?http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/It you got 5 years service out of any HP consider yourself lucky.

Need USB utility to erase hard drive

When it boots open a command line as root and type
shred /dev/sdx
where /dev/sdx is your drive

I have a laptop that don't have CD/floppy drives, that only have 1 hard drive. I just need something that will boot, that will allow me to fdisk the hdd. I don't want to buy a usb cd/fdd drive.

nearly any linux distro and the pen drive linux utility should work.

I've googled, but cannot find anything that will boot properly. Where can I get a utility that will make a bootable usb drive to erase the hard drives?

need some hard drive utility tool

did somebody have the same problem or can anybody help me

i can't find the tool upgrading my harddrives to sata2
the problem is I can't find that tool, because their website is %#@! up.

some time ago I bought 2 new 80gb hitachi deskstar 7k80 hard drives for my pc.

Hard drive checking utility

if it's a Seagate drive try this click hereI don't think it works on other drives but not 100% sure about this.

Hard drive scan utility

Just looking for a utility to scan his HDD and see if it had bad spots in it.

Grab a program called CrystalDiskInfo and open it up. Also check the manufacturers site and download any disk utilities they have.

Reallocated or Uncorrectable sectors is what you want to look for. I formatted and reinstalled windows 7 for him about 4 weeks ago, but the same problem came back.

I'm thinking it's the hard drive. Any amount of them means the hard drive is going. Sometimes it doesn't boot into windows and just keeps resetting. It will give you an instant "Health" status of the drive and also highlight any SMART trips that may of happened.

My cousin is having problems with his computer. Then asks him to repair windows files or so he told me.

Hard Drive usage utility?

I am looking for a way to get real time data on what is accessing my hard drive. Use Show File System Activity from top menu and un-highlight the other options, its the four icons top menu towards the right.

Anyone of a monitoring tool for this purpose? I know about the indexing problems out there with windows but it hate that the only real way to tell if your hard drive is being accessed is to look at the light on the front of case (I think).
