How To Fix Updates failed error code 80070308

TIP: You should click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system speed.

A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Having a sign that tells us of issues that we need to solve in life for us to move forward is a great idea. While it does not always work in life, it does in computers. Messages that indicate the issues your computer encounters are called error codes. They appear whenever there is a problem such as incorrect data input or faulty hardware. Computer programmers add predefined error codes and messages in their system codes so whenever there is an issue, it prompts the users. While error codes may be predefined, there are different sets of error codes with different meanings for other kinds of computer programs.

A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.

Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.

From the Forums

A user in the forum details it further:

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons) Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

What causes Updates failed error code 80070308

It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.

Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

  1. Clear up your Temporary Files and Internet Cache and reboot.
  2. Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.
  3. Use the Microsoft’s Windows Update Troubleshooter to reset Windows Updates settings to defaults.
  4. Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
  5. Reset the Catroot folder.
  6. Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

Failed to install updates: Error Code 80070308

Any suggestions? I have spent this afternoon reading the other posts and following the Windows Update Posting Instructions thread so hopefully I've gathered has much info as I can. Attachment 325390

And I received the following error code.

I hope I have not missed anything out. Any help/advice would be appreciated. This resulted in the successful installation of: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) but the failed installation of the other 9 updates as before.

Good Afternoon,

I am also having problems installing updates with the error code 80070308.

I downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness Tool. But please bear with me if I have. Attachment 325391

I then carried out the sfc/scannow which all came back OK. Kerry

This is becoming a common problem with the latest batch of updates - MS are looking into it (we are led to understand)
I'll add this thread to the action-list for our contact.

Once the installation was complete I tried to reinstall the updates. Attachment 325392

I have saved the logs as a zip file but its too big for me to upload (12.5MB)?

Failed to install 9 updates: Error Code 80070308

Here are some instructions to make life easier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy.

The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... Because most of the updates are important; so i'd like them to be installed and they keep on failing every day since then. I just took a look at some other topics in this forum section and it seems I am not the only one having these problems. Is this problem common?

I've tried the hotfix, didn't work out; i've tried multiple CMD commands, didn't work out; i've tried to rename the catroot2 folder, didn't work out either... I've already tried several things i've found on the internet, but nothing really nothing worked out for me. click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Windows Updates will not install Error code 80070308

I wanted to attach an image from my computer to this post but could not find an upload link.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. If they do not, see if anything here helps you: Fix: Windows Updates fail to install in Windows 7 | 8
Maybe flushing the Software Distribution Folder will help you.
I keep getting a notice that there are 9 windows updates waiting to be installed.

But then I get a notice that nothing was installed because of an error code 80070308. This error code indicates that there could some issue with your .NET installation. You will get the links here: Microsoft .NET Framework : Beginners Guide & Download
Restart and see if the Windows Updates will install.

I ran full Virus scans with both Microsoft Essentials and Bitdefender and both found nothing wrong. They seem to download okay and then go through the process of installing. Create a system restore point first, and then you may try some of these suggestions:
Check the integrity of your .NET installation: .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool - Verify integrity of installation
Run the following tool if corruption is found: Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool Download
If it does not help, completely remove the .NET versions on your system: Remove old versions of .NET Framework with Cleanup Utility
Reinstall .NET afresh. Followed the instructions in Microsoft Troubleshooter and even tried using the "Fix It Tool' but nothing helps.

Any other ideas as to what I ...

All but 6 updates succeded. Did you try to install them individually or at least bit by bit and not all of them together?

Just did a reinstall of my OS.

click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

anybody have any ideas?

Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Thank you for any help - I don't want to make an InPlace Upgrade because of a lot of problems in the past (The Computer was very slow after a repai install).

Any way, I've run the SURT, The sfc scan, both completed successfully. It took me that long until I found this site.

Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. i've also installed avg (disabling essentials) and tests are clean there.

Helping a friend with her pc, for the last 3weeks she's not been able to successfully complete an update, the downloading of updates work fine, but once it gets to the installation phase, it errors out with Error Code 80070308 (9 updates failed) (her pc has been running fine otherwise, and had windows updates set to automatically check & install.)

I've tried the update fix it tool - http://diagnostics.support.microsoft...no=1&_ext=.exe

Windows update diagnostic - http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...nostic.diagcab

.NET updates fail to install with error 800B0100 and 80070308

These four security patches have repeatedly failed to install since 23 March. Some background info... Looking for any guidance on how to install these four updates. Win 7 SP1 was installed on 21 March 2012

I have run the Microsoft FixIt and the System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) but no change.

Have you tried to install them manually instead of through Windows Update?

No registry cleaners have ever been used.

Windows Update Failure to install, error code 80070308

Error code: 80070308

Enclosed is the sfcdetails.txt

I cannot upload the CBS.zip though. Right now it's still on my taskbar and the restart button on the pc has the WU icon ready to finalize after restarting. But it is a personal choice my thoughts are that given updates can cause problems I like to know what I have downloaded and then can go back to dedicated update points get rid of problems.

I've followed the directions in the Windows UPdate Posting Instructions. I've tried several times and it's not completing. It goes through all the motions, including having to restart the computer to finalize the updates and it goes through that also, then the Update window says it failed and the error code. WU then starts the whole thing all over again.

Insert the Installation DVD. Reboot the machine > Run the automatic repair.

3. Open up an elevated administrator Command prompt. Run this command:
sfc /scannow
Let us know the results.

2.

The last thing i did was to rename the file for updates. I have been in touch with microsoft and followed all their instructns this is where i am at. As I don't know what instructions you were given by them;

1.

This did not work but has wiped clean all my update history and since then i am not recieving any updates at all, previously i was getting some but not the security updates. Boot the machien into Safemode with Networking, see what the updates says.

Error Code: 800736B3 with 7 failed updates

For months now I've had windows tell me that I have some updates to be installed. Every time I try it fails to update giving me the error code: 800736B3. also my cbs.log was too big to fit in that one post so i had to make another one.

Updates failed, Error Code:8000FFFF

Not sure what to do, I've tried the following.
1. Next thing I know I get bombarded with 30 or more pop-ups telling me things like; "The cordinal 282 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll" among other similar messages. Most programs wont open anymore, chrome starts up but it wont connect anywhere. Manually uninstall all the updates that I installed today, I managed to delete all except two of them...

3.

EDIT: Added CBS.log!! http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. To make it extra odd; the only reason I can type this message here is because Firefox still works perfect. Tried uninstalling those updates using CMD with wusa command, no success.

Scf /scannow - Found some corrupt DLL files, restarted and problem persists.

2. Several updates failed, I restarted computer as prompted. I should mention that I do not have System Restore or Backup activated... Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report.

The "cordinal 282" message shows up like shown in the attachment but several times with different programs.

So I casually installed some updates with Windows Update. All I get is this error message; "Installer encountered an error: 0x8007371c".

4.

The data is still ...
