How To Fix Windows not updating.... Error Code 80070490 with 11 failed updates

A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Seeing an error when you work on your computer is not an instant cause of panic. It is not unusual for a computer to encounter problems but it is also not a reason to let it be and not to investigate on the errors. Windows errors are issues that can be fixed through solutions depending on what may have caused them in the first place. Some may only need a quick fix of re-installation of the system while others may require in-depth technical assistance. It is crucial to react to the signals on your screen and investigate the problem before trying to fix it.

Having a sign that tells us of issues that we need to solve in life for us to move forward is a great idea. While it does not always work in life, it does in computers. Messages that indicate the issues your computer encounters are called error codes. They appear whenever there is a problem such as incorrect data input or faulty hardware. Computer programmers add predefined error codes and messages in their system codes so whenever there is an issue, it prompts the users. While error codes may be predefined, there are different sets of error codes with different meanings for other kinds of computer programs.

A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.

Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.

What causes Windows not updating.... Error Code 80070490 with 11 failed updates

Whenever you see windows error on your screen, the easiest and safest way to fix it is to reboot your computer. Just like our bodies needing a shut eye for several minutes, our computers also need to shut down once in awhile. A quick reboot can refresh your programs and gives your computer a clean slate to start a new venture. More often than not, it also eliminates the errors you have encountered after rebooting. It is also ideal to shut down your computer once a week to completely put all unused programs to rest. However, when a reboot does not work anymore, use more advanced Windows solutions to fix your errors.

It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.

Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

  1. Clear up your Temporary Files and Internet Cache and reboot.
  2. Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.
  3. Use the Microsoft’s Windows Update Troubleshooter to reset Windows Updates settings to defaults.
  4. Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
  5. Reset the Catroot folder.
  6. Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Windows Update error code 80070490 and message "Windows can't check for updates"

The last successful update was on 13.09.2013. I use Windows Vista Home basic 32 bit, Service Pack 2. All updates made before and on 13 September are written as "successful" in "Update history" folder, but when I open "Installed Updates" folder, I don't see nothing and there is written "No updates are installed on this computer", which is strange, because by this moment Windows Update was made automatically without any problems. Now I am really out of ideas what to do

Today I used again the System Update Readiness Tool and the CheckSur file showed this:
Checking System Update Readiness.

Windows Update error code 80070490 appeared on 20 September 2013 and message "Windows can't check for updates". ps.: On 23 of September I reinstalled Windows Update Software from Microsoft Web Page:
Microsoft Update
and the notification message " Windows can't check for updates" from my taskbar dissapeared and never appeared again, so..i thought the problem is solved, but yesterday evening(13 October) when i opened Widnows Update in my Control Panel and pressed "Check for updates" it started to seek for updates but after some time again showed me the same error code and the same message "Windows could not search for new updates". I asked for help also on Microsoft Community forum, but didn't receive help . seems Windows still doesn't updat...

but to no avail, i still receive the error message

i have also used take ownership on the downloader file in programdata/microsoft/network
and was able to start bits service once i then re enabled windows update. Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save... it hung for awhile so i restarted and got the same error for bits, tried take ownership again, but still get the same error

All checkout fine and that it's ready for the download, my machine has excepted
all updates required for the Windows 10 upgrade. I have tried downloading the new Windows 10 and keep getting Error Code 80070490. After all files are loaded it starts the install then at the end it says it could not load Windows 10 because of that error code. Before the download it runs a Compatibility Report that checks 6 requirements for the download.

What can I do.

Windows Update Error code 80070490

Windows Update worked for a little while but then the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool tried to update and it took it a long time and Windows Update hasn't worked since. I have tried Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64 Update Readiness Tool, MicrosoftFixit50202, MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.Run, MicrosoftFixit50123, .and but none of them worked. I have also uninstalled the updates that were installed after the March 20th backup but that did not help either! Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

I can't uninstall Windows Service Pack 1 because it came as a package with Windows 7 and already installed with my system. I restored the April backup first and Windows Update didn't work with it either so I started over and restored the March 20th backup. I ran the Control Panel troubleshooting tool for Windows Update and it said "Updates ran successfully" and told me to run Windows Update again. I get the error code 80070490.

I have tried uploading the file 4 times and 3 different browsers time out each time and stop. Can someone help me with this? I can't to a Windows installation repair because...

Windows Update Error Code 490 & 80070490

Please copy the file C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS (no file extension) to your desktop, and then compress it. Attachment 258617

Please see the attached cbs folder. Then upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (SkyDrive or Dropbox would be fine) and post a link.

Either myself or Tom982 will then pick it up, and see what we can do with it.

The pop up message said it was an error code of 80070490, but when I cancel that the main windows update window says Error code 490.

Windows Canít Search for Updates Ė Error 80070490

If I can manually replace/repair said files, I might just be able to get this error behind me once and for all!

Considering the fact that it might very well have been updating to SP1 that caused this issue in the first place, because I had absolutely no issues with anything until after I had performed that major update and then everything gradually just went to hell from there. I really don?t want to spend twelve or more hours wiping the system, reinstalling Vista and Drivers, updating to SP1 and other updates (if I even can at that point) and then all of my personal data just to find out that it was for nothing and that the issue will still persist after having installed SP1 again.

I tried the following command findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt and it did nothing. EDIT: I tried running a sfc /scannow in command prompt and after it had run, it said "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to repair some of them". In addition to that, I have also attempted to reinstall Windows Installer 4.5 x86 and that also failed, returning a ?Windows Update Agent Installer Fatal Error: Windows Update Agent Installer encountered unrecoverable error?. I will NEVER buy another system from them again.

I am very dissatisfied with this service, we paid $400 extra dollars for their premier help and support, and this is what we get for it? So, if there really is no ?si...
