A mistake or inaccuracy, an error is caused about by committing miscalculations on the things that you do. It is a state of having a wrong judgement or conception in your conduct that allows catastrophic things to happen. In machines, error is a way to measure the difference between the observed value or the computed value of an event against its real value.

It is a deviation from correctness and accuracy. When errors occur, machines crash, computers freeze and softwares stop working. Errors are mostly unintentional events to happen. Most of the time, errors are a result of poor management and preparation.

Seeing an error when you work on your computer is not an instant cause of panic. It is not unusual for a computer to encounter problems but it is also not a reason to let it be and not to investigate on the errors. Windows errors are issues that can be fixed through solutions depending on what may have caused them in the first place. Some may only need a quick fix of re-installation of the system while others may require in-depth technical assistance. It is crucial to react to the signals on your screen and investigate the problem before trying to fix it.

A lot of users experience difficulties in installing Windows software updates. Most of the time, the update error message doesn’t tell you anything helpful to fix the issue. One the most common update error is “Windows could not search for new updates” plus an error code “80240442”. Updates are important as they deliver hotfixes, security patches and other improvements. Therefore, it is vital to install them when they are available.

Microsoft has streamlined the update process in the recent versions of Windows. However, this does not mean that update errors are totally out of the picture especially with issues relating to compatibility.

What causes Windows Update error 0x8007007E - can't get updates

Whenever you see windows error on your screen, the easiest and safest way to fix it is to reboot your computer. Just like our bodies needing a shut eye for several minutes, our computers also need to shut down once in awhile. A quick reboot can refresh your programs and gives your computer a clean slate to start a new venture. More often than not, it also eliminates the errors you have encountered after rebooting. It is also ideal to shut down your computer once a week to completely put all unused programs to rest. However, when a reboot does not work anymore, use more advanced Windows solutions to fix your errors.

It is important to always run a system diagnostic scan when Windows Updates fail to download or install in order to pinpoint the root cause of the problem. Microsoft provides a troubleshooter for Windows Update related errors that will detect the problem and most likely can automatically fix it. However, there are always these type of errors that are hard to pin down.

Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the problem and fix it.

  1. Clear up your Temporary Files and Internet Cache and reboot.
  2. Disable your Firewall and Anti-virus software.
  3. Use the Microsoft’s Windows Update Troubleshooter to reset Windows Updates settings to defaults.
  4. Flush the Software Distribution Folder.
  5. Reset the Catroot folder.
  6. Boot in Clean Boot State and run Windows Update again.

Error 0x8007007e

Mod Edit:  Split from - Hamluis.
I have the same problem, and since the proposed fix is shown, thought I would continue the question [since fix cannot be done].
Have been using XP SP2 and installed SP3 several weeks ago.  All was working great, therefore I backed up my work via Ghost....several times.  I did have a problem though that prompted me to restore back to an earlier restore point, several times and different restore points and all worked fine.
The last time though I thought the problem I was having might be due to SP3, so I restored to a restore point that was created before I installed SP3.  When the computer rebooted, I received the error code above 0x8007007e  Warning states that the license cannot be verified.  I do have the license on the shiny mirrored sticker that is on the box for the original disk.  I can get to the user log in screen [I am the only one who has used this computer since it was new and I have the discs that came with it new] and after logging in, it shows the error code and shuts down.  I cannot get into the computer to even attempt to fix by the suggested fix.
I really like my old clogger [have a new Macbook Pro but prefer the old MS].  I need help to solve....please.  [If this should be posted new...let me know and I can do that.]

Windows Update - Code 643 Error with Net Framework 4 Updates (x64)

Windows Update Error - Stuck on "Checking for updates"

Hey everybody!
I'm in the process of overhauling our old family computer to run games and not much else (and not high-end ones, either).  I've removed bloatware, slimmed down the program list, updated all the drivers, etc.  Then I ran into a snag.  Windows Update won't progress past the "Checking for updates" phase and actually install anything.  It last updated in May 2015.
From following the advice over at the Microsoft Support area regarding Windows Update not working, I came up with two error codes: 0x80070057 and 0x80080005.  A search of these codes led me to this page (not advertising here, just full disclosure on how I've tried to solve my problem):
Running sfc /scannow gave me the error message of "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."  I couldn't open the CBS.log, so I moved on to the next step.
Running SFCFix gave me the following report:
SFCFix version by niemiro. SFCFix version by niemiro has completed. Finish time: 2016-11-27 07:29:56.992
So it looks like something in my Windows ...

Windows Update could not search for new updates, error 80080005

I've been doing Windows Fix it, and some other stuff that I can find online but none worked. I am concerned about the security of my computer now. I run Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64. Still, every time I click check for update, it always produce the red sign with the message:
Windows could not search for new updates
Error found: Code 80080005

Could anybody please help me solve this problem?

I did clean boot and disabling the Anti Virus (Kaspersky), it didn't solve the problem. Thank you in advance. I have also tried restoring the system back to the last time the update was working normally.

So I tried to search for the solution on the Internet. I have attached the Windows Update log files in case it is required. Lately, I noticed that the automatic update is always installing the same 4 updates and this has been going for 2 months. please help meeeee

Windows Update - won't install SP1 and other updates- error 0x80071a90

Then it restarts, says failure and it rolls back, aborting the update, so when I check windows updates again, if shows SP1 failure, error 0x80071a90. Following Windows Update Posting Instructions
1- installed SURT, but seems nothing happened
2- SFC scan is normal; error-checking tool is also ok.
3- No errors appear on that screen. I thought of virus/malware could possibly doing so, so I ran MSE,adwcleaner, spybot but the errors remain. Also, I downloaded SURT and installed it, but it seems nothing really happened.

I tryed to manually start them through 'services.msc', some of them start to work, like 'Vaio Event Service' which enables my Fn key, but when I restart, every alteration made is undone ( I quickly notice this when I try to use Fn key in attempt to raise/lower the volume, after I restart). I just found out that when I open 'msconfig' , there are many services stopped, including many microsoft ones. I will only find the error code for SP1 if I click on "View update history"
4- attached

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If I try to enable then and restart my PC, simply nothing happens, they keep stopped. There are 3 important updates that I cant make it work, they are:
1- 2 of them concerning .NET framework 4 (KB2742595 and KB2789642)
2- Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

For the .NET framework 4 updates: windows actually do update them and says they are sucessfully updated, but when I check for updates again, they are still there. E...

Windows 7 Update Error Code 800F0900- Can not get updates

Problem still there, no updates will happen. I have did as the post stated and gotten the Windows Tool and run and installed. This seem to start after 9/2014 updates came out.

Windows fails to update: Error Code 800F0900

Attaching my CB log as stated. Windows 7 Home Edition, Internet Explorer

(it is now 1am for me, so will be checking back on this tomorrow)

Thank you kindly

There are errors which SFC cannot fix present - you need to run the CheckSUR tool, and post the full logs -

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

First I like to ask be patient with me as I am not major computer savvy. I hope I have did all that is required to get started in hopes to fix this issue.

Windows Update cannot check for updates - 8007370B error

My CBS log file has been upload to

Are there any other logs I should include. I have tried 3 times from different backups and each time I end up with the same error where Window Updates no longer works, all unfinished updates disappear from the list and when I turned the computer off it finished off many updates though there were a lot missing. To add to this every time I turn the computer on it downloads the same 10 updates and installs them when the computer is turned off, though they never show up in the Windows Updates panel. Update to above:

I mistakenly thought that all the original failed updates had successfully installed.

The only other thing I can add it that I do not have a Windows 7 disc, only a recovery partition plus a Win7 service pack 1 disc. I have tried using the following in an attempt to fix the problem:

Windows Action Centre - nothing suggested. Apologies for the oversight.

However sorting them by name today I noticed that KB292733 which failed with a 8007371B error did not reappear for installation.

Even tried the icacls command to revert file/folder permissions with no success.

I've had this error on a few occasions and have managed to work round it by doing a rollback or using an Acronis backup but this time no luck. I have tried running this from within Windows and from a command line, also from safe mode. Microsoft Fixit (Online) - no success

Fixit Tool 50202 - no su...
