disabling instant messenger programs (AIM, Yahoo, Windows Messenger)

Our IT person is supposed to disable all instant messaging programs throughout the network. After uninstalling them, people (the public) can, if they choose to, can still download the programs and use them. How should one go about disabling the ability to download and/or run IM programs securely?

Yahoo Instant Messenger (help pls!)

Unfortunately for me, password change, does nothing. yahoo has to close, and they apologize for the inconvenience". Well, yesterday my friend's yahoo instant messenger was hacked by some fool who clearly gets his jolly's off, sending people viruses or just messing with them with other people's screen names. This occurred when he would send me a chat room request, and although I didn't accept or deny it, that was all that was needed for the trickery he had, to begin.

So although I saved myself from getting my information taken from me and my account compromised, I did unfortunately get a virus; supposedly. See, what it does; first off it used to kick me off of yahoo by saying "a problem was encountered. I guess he's figured out a way to just send me the error or I have a virus that's related to Yahoo Instant Messenger, and every time it desires, sends me the error.

Like I aforementioned, first it was the chat room invite, now it's just the error messaging popping up. This dude is annoying the crap out of me, because he even i.med me from like different screen names, asking me if I want him to stop kicking me off of yahoo. So if anyone can help me, I would so appreciate it. I know I am not the only one this has happened to because the dumb idiot, is terrorizing with other people on my friend's list also.

I don't know what to do but I can't even stay on yahoo for a long period of time. Anyone ev...

Yahoo Instant Messenger

I'm having trouble keeping my YIM online. I've tried YIM Vista Beta, 8.5, as well as 9, which is what I use now. I have Webroot Internet Essentials installed...it does anti-virus and anti-spyware. I checked my firewalls.

Trillian.cc comes to mind

Pidgeon (formerly GAIM)

Several more you can choose from. I may have also tried 8, I don't remember. See if you get kicked off one of those in Yahoo! IM.

hmmm, try using another chat client all together that is compatible with multiple IM Protocols.

I've messed with the connection of YIM, but nothing seems to work. I'll log on, and it will continuously kick me off every ten minutes or so. I seem to be the only one I know who has this problem.

Nothing seems to fix the problem. I currently have Version 9 installed on my Vista 64-bit, but I've tried various versions and they all do it. Any help?

Yahoo Instant Messenger log in

as of the past week, I am unable to log into my Yahoo Instant Messenger on my work computer ( a few times it randomly logged in ), although I am able to log in to MSN Messenger as well as AOL IM. Again I hope others will add their suggestions.

Can you recall signing out after your last visit to Yahoo ? Check to see if you can locate your name anywhere on the page. You maybe still logged on despite x-ing out the page.

it connected to both AOL and MSN but not yahoo. but the same issue.. If there is a chance Yahoo might see Trillian as a invasion of your privacy and deny access.

There have been no changes that I am aware of. I downloaded Trillian to see if I could log in with that .. If you shutdown your work computer while still online at Yahoo, the session has not ended. You may or may not get a pop up window giving you the option of continuing or starting a new session. Any ideas?

Check your Cookies(History,Temporary Internet Files),if they pile up...one or two of them will prevent access to your Yahoo account.

Yahoo Instant Messenger Archives

I've been searching for a while for an answer to this problem but I have yet to find one that works. Currently itís set to automatically delete all message history when the user logs out. I'm the admin for 100 + computers and all of the computers (windows xp pro) have yahoo instant messenger (latest version...7 something I think) and I would like to know if there is a way via group policy or a registry setting or something that will enable me to turn on the Message Archive (history) feature remotely for ALL the workstations.

If anyone can please help me I would really appreciate it. Also, I already know the problems/risks with having a messenger program at work and if it were up to me I would take it off every computer...but as you can see itís not up to me. I hope Iím posting this in the right section.

YAHOO! Instant Messenger (SYSTEM: )

How do I make it stop?

Run a virus scan with your anti-virus software. It looks like this...SYSTEM: . The window says SYSTEM: with two little boxes next to it. If you don't have anti-virus software, buy some.

Instant Messenger. It doesn't prevent them from happening.

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/software/product.asp?sku=20344709&loc=347

To scan for viruses right now, you can use this:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

However, this is not anti-virus protection. It only identifies problems after they happen.

I have a WINDOW that pops up when I go to log in to YAHOO! I am betting it is a VIRUS.

AOL Instant Messenger and Yahoo mail

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

There doesn't seem to be any support for AIM, and I can't get any help from Yahoo.

Not sure I'm in th right forum, but here it goes. AIM get an error message every time it looks at Yahoo.

Paid $20 for it. I'm suppose to have POP3 services. I have an Email account at Yahoo.

AIM should be able to let me know when I have mail in my Yahoo mail box.

Solved: Yahoo Instant Messenger

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I just typed out a long message here and then lost it. We all have the latest version. What about a different Messenger?

I have not been getting any recorded Conversation History from one person whatsoever. Skype seems to be working pretty well, but I have enjoyed Yahoo Messenger for years. His last recorded one was a few days ago (most likely because I was signed in but invisible) saying, "somehow I lost you from my contact info on the messenger main page". I also do not get offline messages, Nothing.

How about an older version of Yahoo? I don't even know what he's talking about. I have friends that I chat with on Yahoo Messenger.

If he sent me a message, that means he has my contact in Main Messenger Program window. All I did was try to type in the tag words and pushed the delete key and my whole message was gone, why? Any ideas to fix this?

Yahoo Instant Messenger Archive

Someone has my Instant Messenger password and has altered messages in the archive. Can I get a copy of how the messages were altered?

How do I remove yahoo instant messenger?

I downloaded it and it messed up a lot of things on my computer. I uninstalled it but some things are still there in it's folder. Do I just delete the folder?

Yahoo Instant Messenger logging off

Can he log in frm any of the other computrs? [has he tried?]

Q

How long has this been affecting him? Any help appreciated.

My friend has a weird problem.

Then, when he's not even doing e-mail, he gets a message that says (paraphrased) "You are being signed out because you signed in on a different computer." Then it logs him off Instant Messenger. Keith

I dont use yahoo anything, but did he make sure he has logged out from the previous session? He has three computers on a wireless network.

With two computers OFF he goes into Yahoo on the third and Yahoo Instant Messenger comes up automatically.

Yahoo Instant Messenger Problems

I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy. If you still need help, please post a fresh Hijackthis log, in this thread, so I can help you with your Malware Problems. It seems its trying to log on the IM but it stalls for a long time.

I am attaching a copy of the hijack this logfile so hopefully this will help. If you have resolved this issue please let us know.

But I removed them as soon as I was done and now this has happened. I had loaded Spyware doctor, Adaware, previx, hijack this and ATF cleaner to clean out the spyware and malware issues.

I was hoping someone could help me out here. Last night I was trying to help my wife fix her computer because she was having spyware and adware issues. But now Yahoo instant messenger doesn't want to work. i found the posting for that.

I tried reloading Yahoo IM but that hasn't helped. I'm not sure what happened.

Question Re: Yahoo Instant Messenger

I have searched around in yahoo and I can't find a way to get rid of their 'toolbar" which really doesn't surprise me since Yahoo is not known for good documentation.

I hope I am posting this in the correct place and if not I sincerely apologize. I just hooked up my Desktop computer after having moved and relying on my Laptop for almost three months. You have my eternal and undying gratitude.

The update is OK with the exception of the fact that Yahoo has without my permission installed their "toolbar" at the top of my screen and I find it to be incredibly annoying. I have the Yahoo Instant Messenger installed in my computer and I got a message from Yahoo indicating that an update was available and reccommending I install it which I did. Can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this annoying Yahoo "toolbar"?

Can't sign into Yahoo instant messenger

For some reason I can't sign into YIM. I haven't done any configuration to my computer.

Wow, it wasn't working for about an hour and right when I made this post - it worked.

I get that yellow smiley face and it stays that way and eventually gives me this message,.

Yahoo Instant Messenger - issues when installing. Can anyone help?

Try to uninstall the current yahoo messenger, and then install the new one...I think yahoo messenger is always running in any windows operating system.. I have even tried to install the 9.0 versions instead of the 10.0 version.... I'm definitely not an expert and could use some advice.

This program has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect". Windows Vista is what we are currently running. can anyone help me with this? This is the message I get, even when I go in and make sure to delete every part of the old version first.....

Yahoo Instant Messenger not responding/freezing up

Do you want me to post it? Dawn

If I were you I would start with any firewall software on the computer disable each program to see if it makes any changes also some firewalls IE norton will automatically disable IM in the program controls. Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2. I've already downloaded HiJack This and have my logs ready to go.

Yahoo Messenger 6.0.

We have a computer that continually has problems with the Yahoo Instant Messenger program freezing up constantly. There's a delay with sending and receiving and it seems to freeze the whole system for short period of time.

I've run Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware and Spybot, but we're still having the same problem. It has 145 GB hard drive and we're only using 12 GB so far. 512 MB of RAM. This happens even when Yahoo IM is the only program open. I see "not responding" on the bar across the top of the IM window.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of conflict with another program when this program is running. I've installed Yahoo IM on other Dell computers in the office without problem, but this one always freezes up. (I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger several times.)

He has a Dell Dimension 4600. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also if you have any adware software running this can cause it not to respond I would think about it and try to remeber before it happened did y...

Solved: Problems with Yahoo Instant Messenger

Program: C:\ Program Files|Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. I've emailed Yahoo for help but I haven't gotten any definitive help from them as of yet so I'm hoping that someone here might possibly be able to offer a solution to my problem.

Ever since having a new hard drive installed on my computer a week ago I've been unable to use Yahoo Messenger. I can get signed in but Messenger itself doesn't display on my monitor and a dialogue box with the following message appears on my monitor:

Microsoft Visual C ++ LIbrary

Runtime Error!
